Mission Viejo, Calif. (September 18, 2006) – The Wright Balance Golf Academy congratulates Dr. David Wright’s student Kevin Stadler on his victory Sunday at the Albertsons Boise Open along with securing his PGA TOUR card for the 2007 season. Stadler closed with a five-under par 66 to claim victory, posting the lowest winning score in the 17-year history of the event with a 20-under par score of 264.
Stadler’s victory was his second on the Nationwide Tour in the past five weeks, besting Glen Day by one shot in both events. In addition, Stadler captured the European Tour’s Johnnie Walker Classic this past February, along with the Centenary Argentine Open last December. Stadler had his best showing on the 2006 PGA TOUR finishing tied for 13th at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and was one of only 17 players to finish the challenging Firestone Country Club course under par.
"I’m very proud of Kevin," Dr. Wright said. "He is a remarkable talent and has great determination. He has proven at the Bridgestone and the Johnnie Walker that he can compete with the best players in the world. Now he will be back on the PGA Tour in 2007 and will get the chance to do that every week. I believe Kevin’s best golf is yet to come."
Stadler opened the tournament with back-to-back 64s to take the 36-hole lead and entered Sunday’s final round two-shots off the pace. He took the lead early in the final round with birdies on three of the first six holes. With strong challenges coming down the final stretch, that briefly saw him trailing by a stroke, the former USC Trojan kicked it into high gear with three consecutive birdies beginning on the 15th hole, punctuated by and up down par on the 72nd hole to capture the victory.
Stadler’s wins are the most recent in a string of successes by Dr. Wright’s students. In June, Jordan Nasser won the 95th California Amateur at Pebble Beach. Dewi Schreefel won USC’s third NCAA individual title helping the team to a second place finish at the 2006 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships in May. In addition, Irene Cho won four collegiate tournaments in the Spring for USC and was named the 2006 Honda Award winner as the nation’s top collegiate women’s golfer.
