In the month to 15 September 2006 the Golfalot Price Index, which tracks the average price of golf equipment from UK retailers, fell sharply by 2.9%. As the golf season draws to a close and new products are starting to be launched, we have seen the start of the sale season as existing stock is discounted.
Every category of golf equipment feel by around 1-2% over the month, but the big fallers were drivers (2.4%), shoes (2.6%), fairways woods (3%), utility clubs (3.1%) and trolleys (6.6%). With the exception of the trolleys section, all categories suffered from general discounting. Within trolleys the premium priced Stewart X3R hit the market to replace the more expensive X1R. Although it is only one model, with prices at around £1000, any changes have a big impact on the average. Excluding Stewart, the trolley index was fractionally up over the month by 0.3%, buoyed by increased demand for electric trolleys.
The Golfalot Price Index tracks the prices of the latest model(s) from each manufacturer are chosen as they reach the market. Therefore the models tracked always reflect pricing on what the serious golfer wants, the latest technology.
