Leads Four-Win Week for Titleist Golf Ball Players
Titleist ambassador Ben Curtis, relying upon the Pro V1x golf ball and a full bag of Titleist golf clubs, closed with a final round 2-under 70 to capture the 84 Lumber Classic for his second victory in three months. Curtis, who won the Booz Allen Classic in June, birdied three holes in a five hole stretch on the back nine, including a 50-foot birdie putt at the par-5 16th hole. He finished the week at 14-under 274 en route to a two-stroke win.
Fellow full-line Titleist staff professional Brett Quigley matched Curtis’ final round 2-under 70 to finish alone in third place at 11-under. Robert Garrigus (Pro V1) and Ted Purdy (Pro V1) tied for fourth at 10-under as 4 of the top 5 finished trusted Titleist golf balls for their success.

Another Titleist brand ambassador, Steve Stricker, tied for ninth to post his fourth consecutive Top 10 finish. His equipment of choice includes the Pro V1 golf ball, Pro Titanium 905T driver, new PT 906F2 fairway metal, PT 585.H utility metal and 755 irons, and Vokey Design sand and lob wedges.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the 84 Lumber Classic with 102 players (72%), more than seven times the nearest competitor with 14. Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the wedge (116/39%) and putter (57/40%) categories and was tied for the most irons (33).
The victory was the 19th for Titleist golf ball players this year on the PGA Tour, compared to 11 for the nearest competitor.

PGA EUROPEAN: Ian Poulter fired a final round 3-under 69 to capture the Madrid Open by five shots. Poulter finished with a 22-under 266 total to earn his first win of the year and the seventh of his PGA European Tour career. Fellow Pro V1x loyalists Ignacio Garrido and Padraig Harrington finished solo second and T4, respectively.

CHAMPIONS: Bob Gilder (Pro V1) fired a 7-under 65 to successfully defend his title at the Constellation Energy Classic. He finished at 14-under 202 for a two-shot victory over three players, including Titleist ambassador and fellow Pro V1 player Jay Haas, and Pro V1x player Don Pooley. Gilder started the day three shots off the lead but closed the gap with back-to-back birdies to begin his round and took the lead for good with consecutive birdies again at the 9th and 10th holes en route to his ninth career Champions Tour title.
Chip Beck, making his Champions Tour debut, finished tied for fifth with fellow Pro V1 player Tom Watson. In fact, 10 of the 11 players who finished among the Top 10 and ties relied on Titleist golf balls. Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 59 players (75%), more than five times the nearest competitor with 11.
Gilder’s victory was the 19th for Titleist players on the 2006 Champions Tour, more than six times the nearest competitor with 3.
NATIONWIDE: Pro V1x player Kevin Stadler fired a 5-under 66 to come from behind and win the Boise Open by one shot. Stadler, who won the Xerox Classic earlier this year, established a new tournament scoring record of 20-under 264. Stadler guaranteed himself his PGA Tour card for 2007 with the win. Full-line Titleist equipment loyalist Jason Allred relied upon the Pro V1x golf ball, new PT 906F2 3-wood, Forged Scotty Cameron Circa 62 putter to card four consecutive round in the 60s and finish alone in third.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 115 players (74%), more than nine times the nearest competitor with 12. Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the iron (48/31%), wedge (144/43%) and putter (64/41%) categories. Titleist was a close second in drivers (48).
Stadler’s victory was the 20th for Titleist players on the 2006 Nationwide Tour, 10 times the nearest competitor with 2.
KOREAN: Kyung Nam Kang (Pro V1, 904F 3-wood, Vokey Design sand wedges and Spin Milled lob wedge, Scotty Cameron Newport putter) won the Tomato Bank Zephyros Open, closing with a 5-under 67 for a three-stroke victory over Kwang Soo Choi (Pro V1x) and Chang Min Kim (Pro V1x).
U.S. MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP: Titleist was the most played golf ball among the 262-player U.S. Mid-Am Championship field with 229 players (87%), more than 16 times the nearest competitor with 14. Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the utility iron (12/46%), iron (63/24%) and wedge (194/34%) categories and was tied for the most putters (76). Titleist was a close second in the driver category with 75 players, five shy of the leader.
The champion won the all-Titleist final, converting a 5-foot par putt with his Pro V1x on the last hole of the scheduled 36-hole championship match for a 1-up victory. His opponent and fellow Georgian played a Pro V1 golf ball.
WORLDWIDE WINS: With four more wins this week, the Titleist golf ball victory count across the worldwide professional tours increased to 126, over a hundred more wins than the nearest competitor with 23.
