PLANO, TEXAS, September 19, 2006 -Adams Golf (OTCBB: ADGO) today announced the introduction of its new Idea Pro forged hybrid iron set. The innovative combination of forged irons and tour-proven hybrids make the Idea Pro set the very first of its kind in golf. This latest addition into the widely popular Idea hybrid iron series targets the very best golfers, from professional tour players to the skilled single-digit handicappers.
The Idea Pro integration starts with a 3 and 4 iWoodâ?¢ of 20 and 23-degree lofts, respectively. To optimize the center of gravity (CG), an adjustable weight port is positioned forward in the sole of the two hybrids, promoting a lower spin rate while allowing for swing weight and shaft adjustment. The pull face construction and custom steel insert increase ball speed off the face while also reducing spin. The 5-PW forged irons are crafted with a soft, 8620 carbon steel with a satin plated finish. The irons feature a slight cavity back design, low CG and high moment of inertia for increased forgiveness compared to traditional forged irons. With a straight leading edge, minimum offset design and thin topline, the forged irons appeal to better players.
"Building upon our position as a leader in hybrid iron set technology, Adams Golf engineers successfully answered the challenge of incorporating high-performance, sleek shaped hybrids with forged irons that maintain yardage gapping, and the ultimate feel and playability that accomplished golfers prefer," said Chip Brewer, Adams Golf CEO. "This hybrid iron set is the perfect marriage of feel, performance and great looks. The Idea Pro will add to the successful momentum of the entire Idea brand."
The evolution of the Idea Pro hybrid irons started with extensive testing by pros on the PGA, Champions and Nationwide Tours. By slightly modifying tour irons already in play by Hall of Fame member Tom Watson, PGA Tour Rookie Bubba Dickerson, and other pros, Adams Golf engineers were able to maintain the performance of these irons but allow for weight and shape adjustments that target a broader segment of serious golfers. In July, Allen Doyle was the first to win with the Idea Pro hybrid irons when he claimed his second consecutive U.S. Senior Open Championship. The individual hybrids in the Idea Pro set are currently the most played hybrids on the PGA, Champions and Nationwide Tours, combined, according to the Darrell Survey.
"We looked at all of our current products and our competitor’s products that were being played on tour and evaluated the size, shape, and mass properties of each," said Michael Guerrette, Adams Golf Senior Design Engineer. "We then considered player comments, conducted robot testing and the data showed what was lacking in each product relative to what tour players want and need. This integrated hybrid and forged iron set was created to meet the needs and perform to the demands of top players, and the positive results so far are clearly evident."
An optional forged TriTech 4 iron is available. TriTech is a multi-material construction consisting of a thin, forged stainless 455 steel face, 30-gram Tungsten sole weight, and a Thermal Plastic Urethane (TPU) vibration dampener. These components reposition the CG for improved performance and forgiveness while maintaining the look that skilled players demand. A forged 50.5-degree gap wedge is also available, along with a 55-degree sand wedge and 60-degree lob wedge.
The stock shaft for the forged irons is the True Temper Black Gold, crafted with a unique "gold nickel" plating process that gives the shaft its distinct appearance. The stock shaft for the Idea Pro hybrid is the hottest new shaft on the PGA TOUR, the Aldila VS Proto 80-gram hybrid graphite shaft. The Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip is the stock offering in the 8-piece set.
The new Idea Pro forged hybrid irons will begin shipping to golf shops on Oct. 1, 2006. The suggested retail price for the 8-piece set is $1,099 for graphite and $899 for steel. The SRP for the individual TriTech 4-iron and optional wedges is $149 for graphite and $119 for steel.
