Gastonia, NC- It was reported today that AccuFLEX Golf Staff Professional Rocky Rockett will be competing on The Golf Channel’s Big Break VI – Trump National premiering Tuesday, Sept. 26th at 10:00 p.m. ET.
The Big Break VI: Trump National will feature twists and turns that culminate in a match for $50,000 of Donald Trump’s money.
Billed as a battle of the sexes competition, the sixth season of the popular original series pits nine men and nine women vying for exemptions into the PGA TOUR’s Champion Tour and LPGA Tour events. The winning male contestant will receive exemptions into the 2007 Turtle Bay Championship and the 2007 Bank of America Championship, as well as waived entry fees in six 2007 Heartland Players Senior Tour events. The female champion will receive an exemption into the 2007 SBS Open at Turtle Bay and the 2007 Longs Drugs Challenge, as well as waived entry fees for the 2007 Duramed FUTURES Tour season.
Rocky is the Sun Belt Senior Tour’s all-time leading money winner and has won a record 38 events over the last eight years.
He started playing golf when he was 5 years old on the course that his father managed. His dad ran a public golf course for 31 years before he passed away. From his dad, Rocky learned respect for the game and cultivated a talent that eventually earned him a golf scholarship to East Carolina University. He was forced to drop out and return home to run the golf course when his father became ill.
In 1979, he earned a PGA Tour card but found little success due to the combination of Monday qualifying and lack of funds. He started playing high stakes matches to earn enough money to pays his bills. His father’s death was turning point in his life and necessity took him out of school and on a different path.
Rocky worked a few jobs as a golf pro, but has mostly earned his living by playing people with a wager on the line. After playing golf in a match-play format for majority of the time, playing the Sun Belt Senior Tour has provided experience in stroke-play competitions. A devoted family man, he reads the Bible with his wife every day even if he is on the road.
"We’d like to wish Rocky the best of luck," said Jody Baucom, President of AccuFLEX Golf. "We’re proud to have him on our staff and representing AccuFLEX Golf in The Big Break VI. He’s a hometown boy from Gastonia, NC, and we’ll be cheering for him each week on the show."
