University Alumni Contribute to Elite PGM Program at MSU

Starkville, MS – GolfTEC founders Joe Assell and Mike Clinton believe strongly in sharing the success they have achieved with their 11-year-old Denver-based company. For this reason, GolfTEC Enterprises, LLC, is donating a patented SEVA system, valued at approximately $22,000, to the Professional Golf Management (PGM) program at

Mississippi State University. The donation will include equipment, installation and continuing technical support. Both Assell and Clinton are Mississippi State PGM Graduates, along with over 30 of GolfTEC’s current employees. The SEVA system combines motion analysis, digital video, ball flight projection, Tour Pro database and WebLessons®. GolfTEC instructors use the SEVA system to offer the perfect blend of expertise with teaching technology.

"There are two things that distinguish golf professionals from professionals in other industries – their ability to play golf, and their ability to teach golf. This system will allow us the best technology available to achieve both of these goals for our students," said Dr. Stephen Lemay, Professor and Director of the PGM program at Mississippi State University. "We are profoundly grateful to Joe Assell, Mike Clinton, and the entire GolfTEC family for this valuable donation to our program."

The Professional Golf Management Program at Mississippi State University is the second oldest program sanctioned by the Professional Golfer’s Association of America. This four and a half year program gives students a B.B.A. degree in marketing, sixteen months of practical work experience, completion of the PGA PGM Program, and eligibility to apply for membership as a PGA Class A Professional. The MSU PGM Program represents 36 states in the student body.

"MSU’s program is commonly recognized as one of the top two PGM programs in the country," says Joe Assell, President and co-founder of GolfTEC. "With the donation of the SEVA system, MSU’s program will gain even more strength since students will have the ability to practice teaching methods on a regular basis using the best technology available."

GolfTEC works on the philosophy that "if you have a fundamentally sound Technique, properly fit Equipment and are in good physical and mental Condition, you will play your best golf." This philosophy is reflected in the TEC part of GolfTEC’s name. While a comprehensive approach will maximize a golfer’s performance, the heaviest emphasis is on technique. In addition, providing 24-hour a day access to a WebLesson® online gives students more opportunity to review their lessons and better retain instruction.

"GolfTEC plans to provide training and technology updates to MSU as they become available," says Mike Clinton, Senior Vice President and co-founder of GolfTEC. "We are constantly updating our software and teaching methods, and plan to provide those as part of the overall donation."

Founded in 1995, Denver-based GolfTEC is an independently owned, national chain of golf instruction facilities that provide expert teaching for golfers of all skill levels. GolfTEC centers use patented technology to teach the proper golf swing. There are currently 62 GolfTEC locations in 15 states across the U.S., with a total of 40 franchise territories.
