Construction on First Canadian Course Now Underway

September 28, 2006, Cranbrook, BCâ?¦ With over 200 golf courses around the world, Gary Player Design announced it is making its first foray into Canada with two golf course projects in Cranbrook, British Columbia. At a sod-turning ceremony last week, Gary Player joined developing partner, Havaday Developments to officially unveil plans for the 18-hole courses and the vision for Wildstone, the 900-acre tourism and residential community that will surround the two courses.

"In all my years in the golf course design business, I’ve always searched for the right opportunity to work in Canada and finally the Havaday team presented us with an immaculate piece of land," said Player on signing the contract with Havaday. "Any golfer will tell you dramatic scenery enhances the golf experience and you seldom find more spectacular views of the Canadian Rockies than what we have from this site in Cranbrook," he said.

With construction now underway and anticipated completion in 2008, Wildstone’s first course will be marketed under the Black Knight Design brand. It will closely be followed by a Gary Player Signature Course. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet in the sunniest city in British Columbia, golfers will find opportunity to use every club in the bag as they face long, undulating fairways, breathtaking ravines and encroaching wildflower roughs.

"The name Gary Player is synonymous with unforgettable golf experiences, and nowhere will this be more than on Wildstone’s 36 holes," said Joel Savage, President, Havaday Developments Inc. "To have been selected by Gary Player himself as the site for his first course in Canada is a huge testament to the potential of this area in becoming a major international golf destination," he said.

Havaday’s masterplan for Wildstone includes some 3,000 residences ranging from single-family homes to golf villas and condos, radiating from a dynamic village center and hotel. Planned amenities include 36 holes of golf by Gary Player Design, spa, fitness center, pool, boutique shopping and community recreation center. For more information, visit www.havaday.ca.
