Tiger Notches Sixth Consecutive Win at the World Golf Championships-American Express Championship while D.J. Trahan wins Farm Bureau Classic
BEAVERTON, Ore. (October 2, 2006) – Nike Golf carries on its unequaled dominance on the PGA Tour as two Nike Golf Tour Staff members, Tiger Woods and D.J. Trahan, won the World Golf Championships-American Express Championship and Farm Bureau Classic, respectively. This marks the sixth consecutive stroke play victory for Woods and his eighth win of the year. These two titles bring the Nike Golf total to 15 PGA Tour wins in 2006 and sustains its PGA Tour lead in driver, irons, fairway woods and wedge wins.
Woods notched an impressive eight stroke victory at The Grove in Chandler’s Cross, England with his proven equipment arsenal of the Nike SasQuatch driver and Forged Blade irons – a combination that helped him lead the field in greens in regulation by hitting 65 of 72, including a streak of 36 in a row. Woods’ play off the tee was just as impressive as he only missed 12 fairways during the tournament.
Also in Tiger’s bag this week were the Nike One Platinum ball, Ignite 3-wood and 56 and 60 degree wedges. He wore the new Nike SP-8 TW Tour Footwear featuring Power Platform technology, Nike Golf apparel from the Tiger Woods Collection and the Nike Dri-Fit glove. These tools have helped him construct a total score of 109 under par over his last six stroke play tournaments.
On the other side of the Atlantic, Trahan used much of the same Nike Golf equipment to earn his first PGA Tour victory at the Farm Bureau Classic at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss. Trahan’s Nike SasQuatch driver, Forged Blade irons and 55 and 61 degree wedges kept him in first place from wire-to-wire.
On Sunday, Trahan proved to be steady under pressure and trusting of his Nike Golf equipment as he birdied the par-5 18th hole three straight times to hold off Joe Durant in a playoff. The winning shot came when Trahan drained his Nike One Black ball from five feet after Durant had missed his own 5-foot birdie opportunity. Trahan also wore Nike Golf apparel and Nike Golf’s SP 6 footwear en route to his victory.
