Three Day Event Raises Over $23,000 for Houston’s Renowned Newborn Care Center
HOUSTON – GolfTEC Houston and Texas Children’s Newborn Center partnered over the weekend of September 29th-October 1st to raise funds for Texas Children’s Hospital’s Newborn Center, which specializes in the care of premature and fragile babies. GolfTEC offered 30-minute swing evaluations normally priced at $85 for a minimum $50 donation to TCNC. The event included a silent auction with items donated from sports figures, as well as catering provided by a local restaurant, The Ragin’ Cajun. All proceeds went directly to the Newborn Center.
"We at GolfTEC are extremely proud to partner with Texas Children’s Hospital to help raise money for this important cause. It brings GolfTEC a great sense of honor and pride to be partnered with such an important and necessary organization like Texas Children’s Hospital. While most golfers think it’s a miracle when they hit a great drive or make a birdie, the true miracles are those accomplished by the Texas Children’s Newborn Center everyday," stated Dave Baltzer, Houston City Manager for GolfTEC.
The event proved to be a great success, with GolfTEC raising over $23,000, nearly $8,000 more than the initial goal of $15,000. The silent auction participants had three days to bid on signed memorabilia from Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, David Carr, Yao Ming, Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. In addition, local businesses contributed by sponsoring each of the five teaching bays available in the GolfTEC Learning Center. Four bays were used for swing evaluations, while the fifth was used for a long-drive competition among participants.
"We are immensely proud of our affiliation with GolfTEC. All proceeds from this generous partnership will go directly towards the Newborn Center’s efforts to continue the mission of pioneering and delivering the highest standard of neonatal intensive care to the most fragile newborns," said Dr. Charles Hankins, staff neonatologist for Texas Children’s Newborn Center.
New Swings for Newborns not only provided funds for the Texas Children’s Newborn Center, but also a community event that reminded all participants the importance of giving back to a local hospital that has provided so much for so many families. The Newborn Center is known worldwide for providing top-notch care for premature babies, and every dollar counts when upholding this standard of excellence.
