Seattle Woman To Be Honored at Golf Association’s Annual Conference

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, October 10, 2006 — The Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) has named Janet Young of Seattle, Washington the 2006 recipient of the Nancy Oliver Founder’s Award, the organization’s highest honor for its volunteer leaders. She will receive the award during the Saturday evening Gala Awards Banquet at EWGA’s Annual Conference being held at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, FL November 2-4, 2006.
The Nancy Oliver Founder’s Award, named after EWGA founder Nancy Oliver, was started in 2000 to annually recognize an EWGA member who has displayed exceptional long-term leadership and service to the organization. Young, vice president of operations for her family owned business, Fire Safety Services, Inc, exemplifies that dedication to the EWGA. She has served as president of the Seattle EWGA chapter, chair of the EWGA championship committee and is the 2006-07 sectional director for the Pacific Northwest section.
During her two-year term as chapter president, Young is credited with expanding the breadth and scope of the Seattle chapter’s activities and visibility within the community. Her work and leadership on the EWGA championship committee has elevated this association-wide competition to become the world’s largest women’s amateur golf championship, with 2455 participants in 2006. In her current role she mentors the volunteer leaders of six chapters located in the states of Oregon, Idaho and Washington.
"Volunteer leadership is the backbone of our organization," says Pam Swensen, CEO of the EWGA. "It is because of the thousands of women like Janet who give freely of their time and talents that the EWGA continues to thrive. They share a passion for the game and provide the welcoming environment that attracts and keeps more women playing golf."
Founded in 1991, the EWGA is dedicated to providing opportunities for women to learn, play, and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. There are currently 120 chapters throughout the United States and Canada, each run by volunteer leaders. The chapters provide a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers.
The EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Its year-long 15th Anniversary celebration will culminate at the EWGA Annual Conference at PGA National Resort on November 2-4, 2006. More than 400 members and guests from throughout the association and golf industry are expected to attend.
