ORLANDO (October 11, 2006) – The Third Annual BCC/FAMU O.C.A.C. Golf Classic, a major fund raiser designed to help the Orange County Alumni Chapters Scholarship Funds of both Bethune-Cookman College and Florida A&M University, as well as various Community Awareness Initiatives in the Orlando area, will again be held this year at the highly-acclaimed Shingle Creek Golf Club on November 17, beginning at 8 am.
The third annual event is one of the most sought after and popular African-American golf classics in the Orlando area. Last year a field of nearly 140 golfers helped raise $35,000 for its various and well-deserving charities.
Festivities actually begin the night before, with a Pairings Party from 6 pm-9 pm at Shingle Creek Golf Club. The Tournament then begins in earnest the following morning with a continental breakfast and warm-up on the driving range from 7 am-7:45 am. The Classic then tees off at 8 am with a shotgun start. Following completion of the round, there will be an awards luncheon from 1:30 pm-3:30 pm.
Contests during the round include Longest Putt, Longest Drive and Closest To The Pin.
Lee Elder, the first African-American golfer to play in The Masters who played in the event for the first time last year, praised the Classic’s fundraising efforts at the conclusion of festivities. "I appreciated being invited to participate in such a worthwhile event," said Elder. "It was a wonderful showing and we all enjoyed playing the course."
"This will be a sensational day of golf and a magnificent day of fund-raising," says Dave Scott, Director of Golf at Shingle Creek Golf Club. "We are again honored to host and to be a title sponsor of this prestigious event and recognize the benefits it provides to those colleges and charities that are associated with it."
Individual and Foursome packages are still available. The Individual Player Package, which costs $175, includes a goodie bag full of brand name products, continental breakfast, two admissions to the pairings party, refreshments during the round, and one admission to the awards luncheon. The Foursome Package, which costs $600, includes the same goodie bag, continental breakfast and refreshments during the round as the Individual Player Package. Extras benefits are eight admissions to the pairings party and four admissions to the awards luncheon. A maximum of 144 players will tee it up.
BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) of Florida has signed on to be Title Sponsor this year along with Rosen Hotels & Resorts. "We are proud to be a sponsor of this note-worthy event that benefits the youth of Central Florida as well as two prestigious institutions of higher learning," says Tony Jenkins, Market President, BCBS.
Additional sponsors for this year’s event are Picerne Development Corporation that has signed on as the luncheon sponsor, Coca-Cola of Orlando as the beverage sponsor and Mercedes Benz of South Orlando and Toshiba Business Solutions. Additional sponsorship packages are still available, in a variety of forms and prices that deliver diverse benefits.
