ROANOKE, TEXAS – Long Drivers of America (LDA) announced today that Karin Sjodin, who leads the 2006 LPGA Tour in average driving distance, has accepted a special invitation to compete in the upcoming RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, the premier event in power golf.
Sjodin will be one of 40 competitors in the women’s division at the 2006 RE/MAX world finals, scheduled for Oct. 24-28 at The Palms GC in Mesquite, Nevada.
Through the Corona Morelia Championship that concluded on Oct. 8, Sjodin has averaged 284.5 yards per drive during 59 rounds on the 2006 LPGA Tour. She leads the distance category by more than four yards per drive over runner-up Brittany Lincicome (280.4).
Sjodin, a tour rookie, ranks 75th on the 2006 LPGA Tour money list through Oct. 8, with earnings of $122,704. A native of Gothenburg, Sweden and a former Swedish junior champion, Sjodin (pronounced CAR-in Sho-DEEN), was an All-American selection at Oklahoma State in 2005. She also earned Academic All-American honors.
Sjodin gained exempt status for the 2006 LPGA Tour by finishing in a tie for 16th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament Presented by American Airlines.
