Greensboro, Ga. (October 23, 2006) – Highly regarded golf course superintendent Gary Goss has been named director of agronomy for two neighboring Linger Longer Communities, Reynolds Plantation and Reynolds Landing. In his new role Goss will oversee golf course maintenance on Reynolds Plantation’s complete collection of golf courses, including the fifth that is scheduled to open in 2007, as well as Reynolds Landing’s championship Bob Cupp course. Goss was selected for the position from a pool of highly qualified national applicants.
Goss joined the staff at Reynolds Plantation in 1999 and has served as superintendent at the award-winning Oconee Course. Goss, 38, is a native of Clinton, S.C. He graduated from Erskine College with a degree in biology and holds a Master of Agriculture degree from Clemson University.
"Gary has established himself as one of the most talented turf grass experts in the game of golf," said Bob Mauragas, vice president of golf at Reynolds Plantation and Reynolds Landing. "He has exceptional leadership and superior management skills. His passion for the business of golf has been evident in the success of the comprehensive, world-class golf course maintenance program at the Oconee Course."
Positioning Goss in his new role is part of a reorganization of the agronomy team at Reynolds Plantation, with Steve Brady being named superintendent at the Oconee Course, while Ethan Cooper will assume the spot as superintendent at the Great Waters Course and Kevin Carnes is now superintendent at the National Course.
Goss, who lives in Athens with his wife, Lynn, and their two children, Grayson and Caroline, is looking forward to his new post.
"This is a great opportunity to be the point guy for a great team during an exciting time at Reynolds Plantation and Reynolds Landing," Goss said. "We are committed to maintaining consistent playing conditions throughout all our golf courses at the high level our members and guests have come to expect."
Brady has been at Reynolds Plantation for more than a decade as superintendent at Great Waters, and previously was superintendent for seven years at Reynolds Landing (while it was still named Port Armor). Cooper joined Reynolds as an intern in 1996 and returned after finishing college to work his way up through the ranks at the National Course, where earlier this year he moved up to superintendent from first assistant. Carnes, a life-long resident of Eatonton, has been on staff at Reynolds Plantation nearly 12 years, most recently as first assistant at Great Waters and National courses.
