Former Golf Pro, Rep to Expand Company’s Presence in Green Grass Shops
Gear and golf bag manufacturer OGIO has appointed Cal Harris as the company’s new National Sales Manager for the Eastern Region. The announcement was made today by Executive Vice President Harlan Gardiner.
Prior to accepting this latest advancement, Harris served as the Ohio OGIO rep for two years. In his new position, he will oversee the company’s Eastern Sales Representatives as well as managing and developing distribution partners in both the green grass and off-course retail communities.
"The beauty of working with OGIO is the sales team has a direct influence in product development," says Harris. "Having a green grass background, I want to help develop products that will add to our incredible line and fully benefit the club professionals."
Before teaming with OGIO, the former golf pro gained sales experience working as an independent rep with companies such as Cutter & Buck, Pukka Headware and also by launching an independent firm in 2000.
Even before partnering with OGIO, he admired the brand. "I’ve always loved the line. I knew in the coming years everyone was going to want it. OGIO is dynamic; they’re always thinking eight steps ahead of everyone else. Everything they do is innovative, functional, and enormously respected."
Harris recalls "When you go into the OGIO offices, the first thing you notice is Travis Pastrana’s thrashed motobike on display like a trophy." Pastrana, one of OGIO’s sponsored motocross superstars, crashed that bike into the bottom of the Grand Canyon during a stunt for an OGIO film. Pastrana parachuted to safety while his bike ended up in a tangled pile at the base of the canyon. Harris continues: "It was clear that this is no ordinary golf company. After I rode down their two story in-house practice ramp on a BMX bike into a foam pit, I was hooked. This place is charged – you feel like you’re plugged in!"
"Cal’s passion for the brand, his ability to work with our key retail partners, and his capabilities in developing our products for the Tournament and Green Grass markets make him an ideal executive for OGIO," explains Gardiner. "I could not have found a better member for our management group. He and Tom Gocke [who manages our Western Region] are a formidable team."
Harris will continue working from his office in Lexington, Kentucky. He can be reached at cal@ogio.com. For more information about OGIO or its latest collection of golf gear, please contact the company at 800.922.1944, 801.619.4100, or visit www.ogio.com.
