PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, October 26, 2006 – During the past year, the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) has introduced golf education programs developed especially for women golfers of all skill levels. More than 2150 women participated in the program’s first full year of implementation.
The diverse curriculum was developed by the EWGA Foundation and designed to address specific goals of women golfers – including "Getting Started" to learn the game of golf; "Breaking 100" and "How Low Can You Go" to improve golf skills; and "Golf for Business" to utilize the sport for career success. In total, 576 EWGA education sessions were held at 166 different golf facilities throughout the country, offered by 81 EWGA chapters teamed with PGA and LPGA teaching professionals.
"A comprehensive golf education program was a major goal in EWGA’s strategic plan set in 2003," says Pam Swensen, CEO of this nationwide women’s golf organization. "We surveyed women golfers to understand their needs, worked with golf industry organizations to build the curriculum, and now have rolled out the programs. We are proud of our first year results and anticipate that these programs will continue to attract and keep more women in the game for many years to come."
The curriculum development was led by Karen Davis, EWGA’s Director of Golf Education and Player Development and a PGA and LPGA teaching professional. Advisors who helped shape the EWGA golf education programs include Betsy Clark, Vice President of Professional Development, LPGA; Margaret Downing, Director of Training, Development and Culture, CSX Transportation; Anne Lyndrup, Director of Player Development, National Golf Course Owners Association; Rick Marino, Director of Instruction and Master Professional, Paul Metzler, Director of Consumer Marketing, Player Development and Research and Chanelle Pittman, Player Development Coordinator, from the PGA of America; and Carol Wood, Associate Dean, Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies, Salisbury State University.
Since the EWGA started in 1991, more than 80,000 women have benefited from membership in the organization which is dedicated to providing opportunities to learn, play, and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. There are currently 120 chapters throughout the United States and Canada.
EWGA chapters provide a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers. A welcoming environment, golf education and player development, and organized play programs are part of the many benefits of EWGA membership.
Celebrating its 15th Anniversary in 2006, the EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For more information about the association and membership, visit www.ewga.com.
