Rhode Island Woman Honored at Golf Association’s Annual Conference
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, October 30, 2006 — The Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) has named Carol Malysz of Providence, RI as the 2006 recipient of its prestigious Canon Businesswoman of the Year Award. She will be honored during the Saturday evening awards dinner at EWGA’s Annual Conference being held at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, FL November 2-4, 2006.
The Canon Businesswoman of the Year Award recognizes an EWGA member who has demonstrated exemplary business leadership, entrepreneurial spirit and expert business acumen through utilizing innovative skills and technology in achieving success both on and off the golf course. This is the fourth year that Canon U.S.A., a supporting partner of the EWGA, has sponsored this award.
As the director of the Rhode Island Center for Women and Enterprise, Malysz has helped her clients secure more than $16 million in financing and trained and counseled more than 5,500 women. Prior to starting the Center seven years ago, she led the start-up of the Business Expansion Division at the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation to provide account management services to 25,000 Rhode Island businesses. Her most recent start-up is the founding of the Rhode Island chapter of the EWGA in 2005.
She has been recognized by the US Small Business Administration (SBA) as the Rhode Island "Women in Business" Advocate of the Year and was named a Rhode Island Commodore in 2003. Malysz has an MBA in Entrepreneurship from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts and is a graduate of the Center for Creative Leadership.
Malysz serves as the president of the Rhode Island EWGA chapter and in July she organized volunteers for the EWGA Foundation’s fundraising events held in conjunction with the U.S. Women’s Open in Newport, RI. She has been appointed to serve as a member representative on the finance committee of the EWGA Board in 2007.
