(CARMEL, CA, November 6, 2006) The Shivas Irons Society today announced that it would auction on eBay a rare piece of golf art. Titled Hitting the Green, the signed lithograph was created in 1992 by the late Charles M. Schulz and features Charlie Brown and Snoopy in a humorous dialogue on the virtues of different types of golf balls. The lithograph was a generous gift to the Society from Mr. Schulz’ wife, Jean Schulz, and its authenticity is fully documented.
Charles Schulz, who was the creator of the beloved "Peanuts" comic strip, produced a series of 18 full-color, limited-edition lithographs between 1992 and 1996. Hitting the Green was the first of these signed lithographs. The image size measures 13.25 by 16.5 inches (framed size 20.25 by 24.25) and is a signed printer’s proof of the limited edition of 250, which has been sold out for many years.
The Shivas Irons Society is a 501(c)3 charitable organization with members throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. In pursuing its mission of honoring the traditions and mysteries of the game of golf, the Society publishes the award-winning periodical of golf art and literature, The Journal of the Shivas Irons Society. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the Schulz lithograph will support the continued publication of the Journal.
