Furyk Wins Prestigious PGA Award For Scoring Average
ATLANTA – November 7, 2006 Srixon Staff Professional Jim Furyk has won The Vardon Trophy for the first time in his career. The Vardon Trophy is awarded annually by the PGA of America to a PGA Tour pro with the lowest adjusted scoring average on tour: Furyk averaged 68.86. Furyk switched to playing with Srixon at the beginning of the season and won twice and collected 12 Top 4s this season. He played with Srixon’s Z-URC golf ball, Srixon’s W-506 driver, I-506 irons and Srixon wedges.
Since switching to Srixon at the start of the year, Furyk has compiled one of the most consistent seasons in recent memory. He had two victories in 2006, at the Wachovia Championship and Canadian Open. He garnered 13 Top-10 finishes on Tour ranking him first in that category and of those 13 Top 10s, an astounding 12 were 4th place or better including 2nd at the U.S. Open. He is number 2 in the Official World Golf Rankings, and he earned a career best $7.21 million in prize money ranking him 2nd on the 2006 PGA Tour Money List. His precision was on display all year ranking him 1st in Par 3 scoring average, 2nd in Par 4 scoring average and 5th in birdie percentage.
He was 8th in Driving Accuracy, 4th in Greens in Regulation and 8th in Putting. Srixon Staff Professionals have amassed 31 Top 10s on the PGA TOUR this season including Furyk’s two wins and John Rollins’ victory at the B.C. Open.
