Event open to junior golfers age 7 to 15 will be held Nov. 18 from 2:30-4 p.m. at Trump International Golf Club during third round of tournament
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (November 8, 2006) – More than 100 junior golfers showed up last year for the Commerce Bank Junior Clinic during the LPGA’s ADT Championship, and event organizers are expecting a similar turnout this fall.
The Commerce Bank Junior Clinic, hosted by Palm Beach County and the LPGA Foundation, will be held Saturday, Nov. 18 from 2:30-4 p.m. on the grounds of Trump International Golf Club during the third round of the ADT Championship. It is open to junior golfers ages 7 to 15 and will offer young golfers the chance to learn from LPGA teaching and touring professionals in a fun environment
Commerce Bank mascot "Mr. C" and Ronald McDonald are scheduled to join the festivities to add to the light-hearted and kid-friendly atmosphere of the clinic. Those attending the Junior Clinic can bring a golf club, golf shoes or golf club to recycle in the "clubs for kids" box for a chance to win a prize.
A separate Junior Clinic will be held on Monday, Nov. 13, specifically for three hundred and fifty seventh grade students from Palm Beach Garden’s Howell L. Watkins Middle School. Amazing trick-shot artist Dennis Walters will entertain and give his inspirational clinic with assistance from his dog Benji Hogan.
Trump International Golf Club is located at 3505 Summit Blvd. in West Palm Beach, Fla. Parents can register their juniors for the Junior Clinic by calling (561) 656-4400.
The 11th annual ADT Championship serves as the championship event for the LPGA Playoffs – the innovative new playoff system that is being used to determine a season-long champion for the first time this year – and offers a record $1 million winner’s check. The tournament will feature 32 of the top female golfers in the world and will be held at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Fla. from Nov. 16-19, 2006. This will be the sixth consecutive year the exclusive club has hosted this prestigious concluding event to the LPGA season.
Annika Sorenstam is the reigning champion, owning four ADT Championship titles and three of the past four.
The ADT Championship will be played in the following format (a sudden-death playoff will be used at the end of each round in the event of a tie): the first cut will be after 36 holes to 16 players; the second cut will be after 54 holes to eight players (scores are cumulative through 54 holes). The final round will be played in four groups of two, with all players starting with a fresh scorecard. Whoever shoots the lowest score in the final round will win the ADT Championship and $1 million.
