Fun, Furry accessory company celebrates 2nd Anniversary
GILBERT, Ariz. – As they approach the two year anniversary of their global launch, Butthead Covers can no longer be considered the new kid on the block. Known for Turning Golf Upside Downâ?¢, Alice and Danny Scott continue to turn their "bottom line" ideas for head covers into cash.
Butthead Covers fit Seth Godin’s definition of remarkable products he outlines in his Best-Selling book "Purple Cow". Products need to be something phenomenal, something counterintuitive and exciting, and flat out unbelievable. Everyday consumers come face to face with a lot of boring stuff – a lot of brown cows – but you can bet they won’t forget a Purple Cow. Butthead is definitely a Purple Cow.
The idea came while golfing with a friend who asked what was in their bag that looked like a turkey’s butt? It was actually a reindeer with drooping antlers. A few holes later, the idea for Butthead Covers was born.
Using the bottom half of animals like fish, birds, tigers, cows, scorpions, etc., Butthead Covers bring a little levity to the course. The business is family oriented and their son Mike designs the covers, which fit snuggly over the largest 460cc driver.
Butthead Covers recently launched a miniaturized version of a few cover designs, The Tiny Hiny Line, which are made to universally fit putters, hybrids, smaller woods, kids clubs and even irons.
Butthead Cover’s official industry launch was at the 2005 PGA Merchandise Show where they won the Best New Product award for accessories. The covers have taken off and have been featured in Sports Illustrated and Business Week. The company won international notoriety when they were spotted in the bags of some of the competitors at last year’s World Cup in South Africa.
The Scott’s goal is to keep the covers fun and wholesome. They donate a portion of their profits to charity and also partner in fundraisers.
"The passion of helping others is at the forefront of our decision to start a business in which we can give back to the community," said Alice. "A portion of every sale initiated through buttheadcovers.com will be donated to charity."
