The company was founded by Judi Campbell, a grandmother who found herself searching for high-quality golf apparel and equipment for her grandchildren but not having much luck.
"When I retired from Caterpillar Inc., I wanted to be able to share my hobby with my grandkids," Campbell said. "The problem was that I found it very difficult to get my hands on quality golf apparel and equipment for them. I searched extensively for unique, upscale resort and country club merchandise with little success. I thought that if I was having a hard time finding these items, others probably were too."
That thought led Campbell to her second career, an Internet business called LittleChippers.com. No stranger to computers and the business sector, Campbell spent 10 of her 36 years at Caterpillar working on the development and rollout of their first Web site Cat.com. Her last project was spent working on an e-commerce site to sell used Cat equipment via the Internet at CatUsed.com.
She gained her sales experience by selling merchandise and apparel at Coldwater Creek, an upscale woman’s clothing and merchandise shop. Prior to launching her Web site, she tuned up her business skills by completing Bradley University’s Small Business Management Program.
"This business gives me the opportunity to combine my passion of golf and family with some of my vocational skills," she said. "LittleChippers.com is targeted to an audience that wants to ‘fit into’ the golf community but more importantly buyers want to show a personal flair for style and uniqueness, selecting the latest trends."
Since starting her Internet business a little more than a year ago, Campbell said that the reception to the site has been great and business is booming.
"We have only had the site ‘live’ since about June, but our hottest sellers continue to be golf gifts not readily found in stores." she said.
