Continuing its strong golf pedigree, The Preserve Golf Club in Carmel, California hosted the 110th California State Amateur last week.

Woolsey of Pleasanton, a senior at the University of Washington, defeated Wes Payne, 2 and 1, to win the title.
Clampett, a part-time resident of Carmel, a club member and ambassador of The Preserve Golf Club, and Gonzalez, a member of the club, is a former PGA Tour pro. The course record, which Gonzalez previously held with fellow pro Larry Nelson, was broken twice during the State Am by medalist Christian Banke. He carded an 8-under 64, only bettered the following day with a sizzling 63.
