Women’s Golf Association Announces 2007 Board and Officers
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., November 21, 2006 – Karen Moraghan, president of Hunter Public Relations â?¢ Special Events has been elected to the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) Board of Directors. She is a seasoned expert in golf and hospitality marketing strategy and a long-time producer of national sporting events.
The 2007 officers of the EWGA Board of Directors announced at the association’s annual conference in early November include President Penny Hulbert, president Links Financial LLC from the Tampa Bay, FL Chapter; President- Elect Karen Furtado, vice president, CGI, Southern New Hampshire Chapter; and Secretary/Treasurer Margaret Downey, director of training development & culture, CSX Transportation, Jacksonville, FL Chapter.
"Karen’s knowledge and marketing experience within the golf industry are added assets to the diverse talents of our board" says Hulbert, now serving her second year as board president. "We welcome her insights and expertise as we position the association for future growth."
Over the past 20 years, Karen has personally designed and implemented some of the nation’s most momentous golf events and programs, including the USGA’s etiquette initiative, The Spirit of the Game, the Reunion of U.S. Open Champions at Pebble Beach and the Payne Stewart Memorial Service at the 2000 U.S. Open. Prior to forming Hunter Public Relations â?¢ Special Events in 1990 with her sister and business partner, Kristen Hunter, Karen was vice president of marketing for the Pebble Beach Company.
Karen holds a B.A. degree from the University of California, San Diego. She serves on the boards of directors of the Upper Raritan Watershed Association and the University of California, San Diego Alumni Association. Karen lives in Long Valley, New Jersey, with her husband, noted USGA Director of Championship Agronomy Tim Moraghan.
Founded just 15 years ago, the EWGA has touched the lives of over 80,000 women, providing opportunities to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. This not-for-profit membership association has 120 chapters throughout the United States and into Canada, offering a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for new and experienced golfers.

The EWGA Board of Directors is responsible for leading and governing the EWGA, establishing its goals and policies; ensuring strategic planning; and providing fiduciary oversight of the association. The board of directors also appoints the chief executive officer of the EWGA who serves as an ex-officio Board member.

The EWGA board representative from the PGA of America is Sandy Cross, marketing services director, PGA of America, Palm Beach County, FL Chapter; the USGA board representative is Barbara Douglas, a member of the USGA Women’s Committee from Phoenix-Valley of Sun, AZ Chapter; the communications representative is Susan Reed, editor-in-chief, Golf for Women magazine, New York City, NY Chapter; and the business and industry representative is Karen Francis, chairman and CEO of Publicis & Hal Riney.
