PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, November 27, 2006 -LPGA Tour winner Laura Diaz has been named the 2007 Honorary Chair of the Member-Get-A-Member program of the Executive Women’s Golf Association(EWGA). She will play a round of golf at Amelia Island, Florida with the EWGA member who recruits the most new members by September 30, 2007.
"Laura is such an excellent role model – balancing career and family while giving back to the game and the community – just like so many of our members do," says Pam Swensen, chief executive officer of the EWGA, a nationwide association with 120 chapters throughout the country. "Winning a trip to Amelia Island to play with her is a real motivator and fitting grand prize for our annual membership campaign."
Diaz joined the LPGA Tour in 1999 and has had two career victories and numerous Top-10 finishes. Swinging a club since she was a toddler, Diaz learned from her father, Ron Philo Sr., who owned a golf driving range and miniature golf course in Scotia, N.Y. He, her brother and her husband – all golf pros – now run the Ron Philos’ School of Golf in Amelia Island, Fla., and Cooperstown. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University, where Diaz was 1995 ACC champion and two time First Team All-American. Since 2003 she has served as honorary chair of the Laura Diaz girls division of the Future Collegiate World Tour for junior golfers. Diaz had her first child in January.
In 2006, the EWGA Member-Get-A-Member program resulted in 4,369 members joining the association. All members who recruit new members are entered in prize drawings to receive merchandise, gift certificates, golf trips and more. The campaign is supported by NIKE GOLF and Golfsmith.
"I am pleased to have this opportunity to encourage more women to get involved in golf and the EWGA," says Diaz, who lives in Amelia Island, where the association’s 2007 Annual Conference will take place on November 1-4. "When EWGA members from around the country gather in Amelia next year, I am looking forward to teeing it up with the recruiter of the year."
Since the EWGA started in 1991, over 80,000 women have benefited from membership in the organization which is dedicated to providing opportunities to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. EWGA chapters throughout the United States and into Canada offer a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers.
The EWGA is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For more information about the association and membership visit www.ewga.com.
