Nicklaus Signature Course Ranked Among Nation’s Best New Layouts
Fenwick Island, Del., Nov. 28, 2006 â?¦ Bayside Resort Golf Club, a year-old Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course near the Southern Delaware shore, has received three distinctive honors:
"Top 50 Best New Courses," a biennial list compiled by Golfweek magazine
"Golf Developments of the Year," compiled by Golf Inc. magazine
"Best Courses You Can Play," an annual guide compiled by Golfweek magazine
"It’s rewarding and an honor to be recognized on these lists of elite golf courses in the United States," said Tom Tipton, Vice President of Sports & Fitness for Carl M. Freeman Companies. "Not only is Mr. Nicklaus’ design at Bayside worthy of championship competition, but the passion we have for the environment is shown by the great care we have taken to preserve the natural surroundings of the golf course."
Debuting in August of 2005, the par 72 serves as the centerpiece to an eco-friendly planned golf community adjacent to the shoreline. The distinctive waterfront links layout, which measures 7,545 from the tips, stays true to the natural composition of salt marshes, meadows and woodlands to present strategic and aesthetic shot values.
Bayside is rated the No. 1 course in Delaware in the Golfweek guide to public-access facilities, which makes up a special issue for subscribers. The honor followed on the heels of Golfweek ranking Bayside as one of the top new courses, based on input from nearly 400 experts on the magazine’s panel.
Bayside was a close runner-up to Bandon Trails Golf Course on the Oregon coast in the Golf Inc. rankings of best new developments in the "Daily Fee" category. In its November issue, the magazine has noted, "All the judges agreed that while Bandon Trails and Bayside were totally different project approaches, the difference between first and second place was minimal."
Bayside is the latest development from the Carl M. Freeman Companies. Established in 1947, the Carl M.
