Unique Photos Reveal the Beauty of Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course
(November 7, 2006) BOERNE, Texas – Texas-based photographer Carlton Wade has continued to capture unique imagery of Hill Country golf courses with his most recent shoot at Cordillera Ranch’s Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Located just outside Boerne, Texas, Cordillera Ranch encompasses 8,700 acres along what’s widely recognized as the "tenderloin" of the Texas Hill Country.
The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Cordillera Ranch features a classic-style layout that is a departure from most Hill Country golf courses, in that the golfer’s view from virtually every tee shows the entire hole. This classic routing theory makes for a unique photographic opportunity.
"Most of the classic courses throughout history have been like this," said Cordillera Ranch Vice President Mike Sheridan. "You can stand up on the tee and are able to see the entire hole. The designer then builds the strategy from there, adding bunkers, native areas, creeks, water hazards or other features."
The golf course takes full advantage of the ravines and gently sloped hills of the beautiful Texas Hill Country, and the design creates a pleasant marriage between golf and real estate, providing mutual benefit for each without encroachment.
Cordillera Ranch’s classic design is complemented by a beautiful contrast of Zeon Zoysia tees and fairways, Tifton bermudagrass roughs and A1-A4 bentgrass greens.
"We decided on this blend of grasses because we liked the contrast. The Zeon is a warm green, with a very uniform blade size, while the bermudagrass has a little cooler, bluish hue," said David Hill, President of Cordillera Ranch. "It really provides a beautiful contrast and offers us a lot of different playing conditions based on how high we let the rough grow. Outside the roughs, we have the longer native grasses like gulf muhly, purple fountaingrass and Texas switchgrass, among others, which provide even greater contrast. We’re very pleased with how it has come together, and from what we hear from our golfers, they are, too."
