PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The 2007 Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series will celebrate its 12th consecutive year of providing affordable and competitive golf for juniors ages 13-18, featuring five new sites in a 10-state summer coast-to-coast schedule. The entry application will be posted on pgajuniorseries.com and PGA.com/juniors beginning March 1, 2007.
The PGA Junior Series, marking its fifth year with title sponsor Callaway Golf, opens at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky., May 29-31, 2007, and concludes at Muskogee (Okla.) Country Club, Aug. 6-7, 2007. Next summer’s schedule features 10 events, including five 54-hole (three-day) and five 36-hole (two-day) competitions, as well as the 72-hole flagship event, the 32nd Westfield Junior PGA Championship in Westfield Center, Ohio, July 11-14, 2007.
"The Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series is a premier competitive program that brings together many of the best boys’ and girls’ players worldwide," said PGA President Brian Whitcomb. "The PGA of America welcomes back Callaway Golf as title sponsor, as they once again join in sharing a tradition of excellence in junior golf. Additionally, the support and hospitality of PGA Sections across the United States makes for an atmosphere that rivals a professional major Championship."
Nationally recognized by both the GolfWeek Sagarin Points System and Junior Golf Scoreboard, the Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series debuted in summer 1996.
The program has attracted boys and girls representing 50 states, the District of Columbia, 22 countries/territories and six continents, including players from Bermuda, Guam, The Mariana and Marshall Islands and the U.S.
Virgin Islands.
"We are also fortunate to connect five of the Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series event sites with the PGA Professional Golf Management program," added Whitcomb. "This will enable us to promote The PGA of America’s career awareness initiatives and also allow junior golfers to discover the tremendous opportunities the golf industry presents to them as both a major in college and a career. In addition, we will tie in the final event site with the 89th PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., which will enable the participants in the final tournament of the Series and their parents to have a very unique opportunity to watch the top players in the world prepare for the Season’s Final Major."
Each Series event will feature a field of approximately 156 players. Juniors may enter as often as they wish.
The event fields are based on playing ability and are not first-come, first-serve, so be sure to include your playing history when applying. Each event will consist of boys’ and girls’ divisions, with approximately one-half of the field consisting of competitors residing within the host PGA Section of the competition. The boys’ and girls’ winners of all events prior to the 32nd Junior PGA Championship in July 2007, will receive an exemption into 32nd Westfield Junior PGA Championship, The PGA of America’s major Championship for juniors.
