December 5, 2006; Phoenix, Ariz.: The new Redwoodâ?¢ putter series, PING’s first completely milled stainless steel putter line, has hit the market. The line is available in three models: the classic Anser® and Zing®, as well as a mallet, Piper® S.
The Redwood series is a combination of proven designs and the highest level of quality and craftsmanship. No detail has been left to chance in these putters, which are individually machined out of 303 stainless steel. With slightly heavier heads, (Anser – 340g, Zing – 340g, Piper S – 355g) each putter in the series offers an extremely solid feel with a rich black chrome finish, first popularized by the PING Tour Wedges. Targeting the premium golfer who demands the best, the Redwood series putters debut with a U.S. MSRP of $280.
"These putters are designed to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye and engineered to produce lower scores. All of the models have clean lines on them, which will help golfers line up their putts. The 100% machined heads enable us to ensure that the shape and the lines of each putter we produce are exactly as we designed them," said PING Chairman and CEO John Solheim.
With tour pros such as Angel Cabrera, Mark Calcavecchia, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore, D.A. Points, Charles Warren, and Lee Westwood already using the putters, the Redwood series has been tested at the highest level.
The Redwood name pays tribute to the home of the original PING putter, Redwood City, California. It was here in 1959, in founder Karsten Solheim’s garage, where the first PING putters were made.
"Redwood City is a special place for me because it is the location of where our company was born. It is also where I first worked by my dad’s side and learned the value of craftsmanship. The Redwood series symbolizes decades of dedication to the highest level of craftsmanship," said Solheim.
Nearly half of a century later PING has taken two of its classic designs (Anser and Zing), along with a mallet design (Piper S), and machined them into the most precisely built stainless steel putters the company has produced.
All three putters are available in right-handed models, with left-handed models shipping in February 2007. The Anser and Zing can be custom built to accommodate lie angles of plus or minus four degrees from the standard lie. The mallet, Piper S, can be custom built to accommodate lie angles of plus or minus two degrees from the standard lie.
