DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The third-annual Women’s Golf Week is scheduled for June 2-9, 2007, and is expected to involve more than 50,000 women at more than 1,200 golf facilities across the country. Last year’s event attracted an estimated 20,000 women who participated at activities held at nearly 600 host facilities.
Women’s Golf Week was developed in response to input from golf industry leaders at the 2004 GOLF 20/20 Conference and is part of the Play Golf America campaign, the golf industry’s premier search engine for accessing information on player development programs for adults, women and families nationwide. After advancing the program for two years, GOLF 20/20 is handing over management responsibility for Women’s Golf Week to the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA), the PGA of America and the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA), with ongoing support from other leading organizations in golf including the PGA TOUR, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and the United States Golf Association (USGA).
"I am delighted that we are able to take a lead role along with the EWGA in managing and promoting Women’s Golf Week," said Carolyn F. Bivens, LPGA commissioner. "We are looking forward to utilizing the strengths and talents of all of our diverse members – both Tour and teaching and club professionals -to bring more women into the game in 2007."
"With the PGA of America outreaching to all teaching and club professionals and providing the resources of playgolfamerica.com, the LPGA taking the lead on exposure and public relations, and the NGCOA engaging its membership to register their facilities, we have a committed team capable of making Women’s Golf Week one of the most important growth programs on the annual calendar," said EWGA Chief Executive Officer Pam Swensen.
During Women’s Golf Week, participating host golf facilities offer complimentary golf instruction to women 14 years of age and older. Host facilities are also encouraged to offer a variety of activities, including networking receptions, golf rules and etiquette seminars, club fitting and equipment demonstrations, golf apparel fashion shows, luncheons, playing experiences and contests.
Host facilities utilize www.playgolfamerica.com to post their Women’s Golf Week activities for consumers to access and register to attend. Beginning in December, interested golf facilities will be able to sign up as official host facilities and begin posting their specific activities.
