NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (December 9, 2006) – Ron Schmid, Executive Director of the Carolinas PGA, has announced the sale of Carolinas PGA Section Headquarters to Loris Community Hospital District (S.C.). Carolinas PGA President Rick Murphy, Secretary Karl Kimball and Carolinas PGA attorney Dalton Floyd of Surfside Beach represented the Carolinas PGA in the transaction. Loris Community Hospital District Chief Operating Officer Arnold Green and attorney Carroll D. Padgett Jr. of Loris represented Loris Community Hospital District in the transaction. The disposition closed on November 27th, 2006.
The Carolinas PGA Section Headquarters has been a part of the Grand Strand landscape for more than a quarter of a century. In 1975, Caro-Strand Corporation (Bay Tree Golf Plantation) donated a parcel of land on Highway 9 in Little River, SC, to the Carolinas PGA for their homesite. The Carolinas PGA office opened its doors on May 10th, 1976. Prior to 1976, the Carolinas PGA Section Headquarters was located in Durham, North Carolina. A number of changes have taken place at the five thousand square foot facility over the past thirty years. Renovations to the building in the 1980s included offices for tournament officials and a Carolinas PGA Hall of Fame. A fire in August of 2002 forced the Carolinas PGA staff to take up temporary residence at the Surf Club in North Myrtle Beach while repairs were made to more than half of section headquarters.
"The Carolinas PGA will always be in debt to the Caro-Strand Corporation for the opportunity they provided to us so many years ago. They are great friends of the Carolinas PGA," said Schmid. "We would not have been able to achieve the success we have over the past thirty years without their wonderful support."
Included in the deal with Loris Community Hospital District is the option for the Carolinas PGA to continue to occupy their current building for up to five years. Should the Loris Community Hospital District require use of the building, they will provide a comparable facility for the Carolinas PGA. President Rick Murphy is in the process of forming an advisory committee, whose task will examine and make recommendations about potential locations for the new Carolinas PGA section headquarters. The committee will be comprised of businessmen and women across the Carolinas, PGA Professionals, Executive Director Schmid and the Carolinas PGA Board of Directors.
"We are excited about locating a new home that will provide the perfect space in which to grow the game of golf in the Carolinas and support our membership of close to two thousand Carolinas PGA Professionals," stated Carolinas PGA President Murphy. "I am also pleased that the Carolinas PGA has been able to provide the land necessary to help expand the Sea Coast Medical Center, a division of Loris Community Hospital, one of the top medical facilities in the region."
