Golf Digest Ranks Nicklaus Signature Course No. 8 In Its Class

Fenwick Island, Del., Dec. 29, 2006 â?¦ Bayside Resort Golf Club, a year-old Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course near the Southern Delaware shore, has been listed among the best new courses in the country by Golf Digest, in the magazine’s prestigious rankings that appear in the January issue.

In the section called "America’s Best New Courses of 2006," Bayside Resort was ranked No. 8 in the category of "Best New Public Courses $75 And Over."

The Golf Digest honor comes on the heels of three distinctive honors bestowed recently on Bayside Resort by Golfweek magazine ("Top 50 Best New Courses" and "Best Courses You Can Play") and Golf Inc. magazine ("Golf Developments of the Year").

"I know that the respect and recognition that the golf course has received were a source of pride for Josh Freeman, who was the driving force in securing Mr. Nicklaus to create this special golf course," said Tom Tipton, Vice President of Sports & Fitness for Carl M. Freeman Companies. Joshua M. Freeman, the president and CEO of the Freeman Companies, was killed in a helicopter crash Dec. 14, not far from Bayside Resort Golf Club.

The 2006 Golf Digest winners were determined by evaluations filed by the magazine’s panel of more than 800 low-handicap golfers, who judge courses in five categories: Shot Values, Design Variety, Resistance to Scoring, Memorability and Aesthetics. "America’s Best New Courses of 2006 reflect what pleasures can result when man and money yield to Mother Nature," Golf Digest senior editor Ron Witten wrote of the highly regarded awards that were initiated in 1983. "There were no magicians conjuring up Scotland in the Sonoran Desert, or Carolina on the Kansas plains. The nation’s top new courses are faithful to their surroundings, providing golfers with a genuine sense of where they’re at."

Debuting in August of 2005, the par 72 serves as the centerpiece to an eco-friendly planned golf community adjacent to the shoreline. The distinctive waterfront links layout, which measures 7,545 from the tips, stays true to the natural composition of salt marshes, meadows and woodlands to present strategic and aesthetic shot values.

Established in 1947, the Carl M. Freeman Companies are the successful developers and managers of award-winning resort communities, golf courses and neighborhood shopping centers. They also own and operate the Historic Tidewater Inn, several restaurants and businesses engaged in providing real estate brokerage, management, mortgage banking and settlement services throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

A presence in Delaware for more than 30 years and recent recipient of the Delaware Greensaver Award for Environmental Preservation, Carl M. Freeman is the name behind several well-known communities and golf courses located throughout the Delmarva region, including Sea Colony, The Cove, The Preserve, Village at Bear Trap Dunes and Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club, The Bay Club and Bayside.
