HOUSTON (DEC. 18, 2006)—William Cole, Inc. (WCI), a Houston-based golf course development and management firm, has acquired a new management contract for the Hill Country’s Mountain Valley golf course, a popular spot with golfers from Houston and Corpus Christi.
Spencer Clements, president of WCI, said this contract secures his company’s position as one of the largest golf course management firms in the Houston region and the only one to focus on the strong semi-private segment.
Clements also has added two new staffers: Courtney Bickford, Membership Director at Houston National Golf in northwest Houston, and Barbara (B.A.) Needham, Membership Director at Lake Windcrest in Magnolia. "They both have solid ties to the community and will expand our reach with chambers and other organizations who may have an interest in the clubs beyond golf—such as for dining and party facilities," said Clements.
Barbara and Kenneth Arthur, owners of the Mountain Valley golf course and the Frio Country home building business, have rental units on the Frio River attracting river goers throughout the summer. The Arthurs also own a country store and a restaurant which recently has headlined Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and other celebrity performers.
WCI is in charge of the Mountain Valley golf course maintenance and setting up the business plan for the course prior to the official grand opening in mid-summer. WCI also will be setting up Stay & Play packages in the spring and fall to extend the Mountain Valley tourist season. "We will explore affiliate relationships with rental housing and hotels throughout the Frio River area," said Clements.
"The theme of the clubhouse and development should appeal to corporate groups, " added Clements. "It will be designed like a Hill Country hunting lodge and we anticipate offering hunt/golf packages to extend that theme."
In Texas, WCI also operates and manages Houston National Golf in northwest Houston, Magnolia Creek Golf Links just south of Houston and Lake Windcrest in Magnolia, north of Houston near The Woodlands.
