Award-Winning Golf School Opens January 1, 2007
December 18, 2006, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – True Blue Plantation and Caledonia Golf and Fish Club announced today that the Mike Strantz-designed courses will serve as the new home of the Steve Dresser Golf Academy beginning January 1, 2007. The Steve Dresser Golf Academy opened in 1989 and has been an active member of the Myrtle Beach golf scene
Annually recognized as one of the country’s "Top 25 Golf Schools," the Steve Dresser Golf Academy is led by Dresser, who is widely recognized as one of the country’s top golf instructors. During his two decades as a teacher, Dresser has given an estimated 20,000 private lessons and 5,000 golf school sessions. Listed in the book of "America’s Greatest Golf Instructors", Dresser is ranked among the top instructors in South Carolina and the southeast by Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine, respectively. The Vermont-native was also chosen as the "Carolinas PGA Section Teacher of the Year" in 2004.
At its new True Blue home, the Academy will feature a 2,200-square foot learning center complete with a classroom, repair center and offices. The indoor swing center boasts four learning stations to be equipped with state-of-the-art digital video systems. The Academy will offer a private driving range with target greens, bunkers and lake to simulate realistic golf experiences. A large practice green will be available for school use exclusively, along with a 600-square foot indoor putting area to be built in case of inclement weather.
Dresser and his staff of PGA Class "A" Members teach sequence instruction which starts the students with putting and gradually evolves to the full swing shots. Using the latest technology with digital video systems and teaching aids, all students receive a CD of their swing with voice-over analysis, before and after swings, tour player comparisons, Club Trackerâ?¢ swing plane technology and follow up video analysis via the internet.
Golfers can choose from the variety of golf school packages offered throughout the year. While most golfers select the three-day golf school, golfers can also select a two-or-five day visit or opt for private instruction. The Academy also provides club-fitting service and golf package planning for guests.
"We started the Golf Academy here in Myrtle Beach in 1989 and our Mission Statement has always been to enable people to enjoy the game of golf by assisting them attain their goals," said Dresser. "We’ve been in business a long time here in Myrtle Beach when many schools have come and gone. We are excited to partner with two courses as highly regarded as True Blue Plantation and Caledonia and look forward to helping more golfers realize their potential."
"This partnership with the Steve Dresser Golf Academy combines world-class instruction and world-class golf and gives our True Blue and Caledonia guests a rare opportunity to learn from the very best while playing the very best," said Bob Seganti, True Blue Head Golf Professional. "When visiting our website, golfers will be able book a golf school package with morning golf instruction from a Top 25 golf school and then practice their new skills on our two nationally-ranked golf courses."

Caledonia Golf and Fish Club has been named one of the "Top 100 You Can Play" by Golf Magazine, "Top 25 Courses in South Carolina" and one of "America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses" by Golf Digest, "Top 100 Modern Courses" by Golfweek and "Top 100 Best Courses for Women" by Golf for Women. The course is built upon the site of a historic 18th century rice plantation in Pawleys Island, S.C. The 6,526-yard, par-70 course has been described as having "18 signature holes," with holes routed around majestic oaks and meandering streams. The picturesque 18th hole borders the Plantation’s old rice field, and requires a precise tee shot that sets up a difficult second shot: a forced carry onto a green that is watched closely by the beautiful antebellum style clubhouse.
