SOUTHFIELD, MI December 13, 2006 – GolfTEC client and avid golfer Lionel McGinnis approached the PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship hoping that his eighteen months’ worth of work with GolfTEC Troy instructor Tim Sam would pay off. Having scored a gross of 473 shots in the 2005 tournament, McGinnis knew he had improved his golf swing working with Sam at GolfTEC, but never imagined that he would best his own score by a whopping 58 strokes.
"GolfTEC really helped me in numerous ways," says McGinnis. "Together with Tim, I improved my swing and my short game. Tim really helped me to understand the fundamentals of golf."
McGinnis began with GolfTEC in April of 2005, and has steadily continued to work with Sam to improve his swing. His handicap right now is a -21, and he feels confident that he will eventually reach his goal of becoming a scratch golfer.
"Tim really has that personal touch – it’s not just going to an instructor, but going to a friend," says McGinnis. "He’s very easy to work with, and we have approached my game a little at a time so it’s less overwhelming."
McGinnis has now played in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina tournament for 2 years, and worked diligently on his game during the 2006 golf season. He was sure he would play better in this year’s PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship, and as is evident, McGinnis has grown by leaps and bounds as a golfer.
"Lionel has come a very long way since April 2005 with his game," says Sam. "He continues to work very hard to improve and practice, and we are very proud of his accomplishment. Lionel winning the Most Improved Golfer Award proves to me just how much GolfTEC clients can improve with hard work, practice and a commitment to their game."
