(Birmingham, Ala.)- The 2006 Regions Charity Classic presented by Bruno’s Supermarkets, an official Champions Tour event, will donate more than $680,000 to charitable organizations in Alabama. (See Attached list) This year’s donation brings the tournament’s 15-year total contribution to charity to $9 million. The Regions Charity Classic Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization with proceeds raised from each year’s tournament activities benefiting various charities.
"Regions’ mission to make life better for the communities where we live and work, as well as our company’s basic values, supports the Champions Tour’s commitment to community service," said Bill Askew, head of Consumer Banking for Regions and Chairman for the Regions Charity Classic Foundation. "There is a great tradition behind this event on so many levels, and we are excited about the opportunity to build upon that tradition."
"Regions is proud to be the title sponsor of this incredible event and along with the other dedicated sponsors, we are willing to put in the time, effort, and resources needed to make the Classic a success year after year," said Sam Tortorici, North Central Alabama area executive for Regions Bank. "This tournament means a lot to our community, and allows the charities benefiting from this event to continue the truly remarkable services that they provide our citizens."
Scott North, Bruno’s regional vice president, attributes the success of the tournament to the generosity of sponsors and fans. "As the 2006 presenting sponsor, Bruno’s Supermarkets played a significant role in the Regions Charity Classic. Our stores participated with contributions from employees and customers, adding to the charitable impact. This event means a lot to our organization and to the many worthy charities it reaches in Alabama."
The benefiting 501(c)3 charities are selected from a wide variety of areas including education, arts, health and the humanities. In order to maximize the number of charitable organizations receiving funds, some recipients rotate from year to year. Preference is given to local and state organizations.
"The 2006 tournament was an extremely successful event," said Gene Hallman, President of Bruno Event Team. "Regions Bank and Ross Bridge were outstanding new partners for the tournament. Additionally, Bruno’s Supermarkets, our other corporate sponsors, fans and volunteers contributed greatly to these charitable donations. We are very proud to reach the very significant milestone of $9 million in charitable donations. The tournament has a very bright future and the staff will continue to work hard to provide the community quality golf and charitable contributions."
The 2007 Regions Charity Classic presented by Bruno’s Supermarkets will be held two weeks later than the 2006 event on May 14-20 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Ross Bridge.
