EL SEGUNDO, CA–Are there teenage golf junkies out there? You bet there are! Well, two Southern California golf organizations have pooled their creativity to design the ultimate golf experience for teenagers—a two-week overnight camp experience for teen golfers between the ages of 11 and 17—dubbed the SoCal Swing.
The Southern California PGA (SCPGA) and Total Golf Adventures (TGA) put their heads together to design the ultimate golf experience for those teenage golfers. There will be two 14-day SoCal Swing golf camp sessions in 2007: July 8 to July 21 and July 22 to August 8 at the price of $3,799.
The SoCal Swing is an odyssey across Southern California, covering golf course outings in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs and San Diego. Golf highlights of the trip include golf at Torrey Pines South, home of the 2008 U.S. Open and The Buick Open; Trump National Golf Course, host of the Big Break VI, the TPC Stadium course at PGA West, the first home of The Skins Game and the current home of the final stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School.
In addition to amazing golf at other courses such as, the SCPGA Club, La Purisima, Sandpiper and the SCGA Course the campers also get a chance to tour some of the best colleges on the West Coast and meet with the golf coaches of UCLA, USC, UCSB and UCSD.
As if great golf and college research wasn’t enough, campers also crash Golf Excellence International (GEI), a state-of-the-art instruction facility run by Master PGA Professional David Wurzer, where their swings undergo a complete video analysis and then they take home a personalized DVD home with them.
Members of the SCPGA professional golf teaching staff as well as TGA staff will run the two programs which will cover all aspects of the game. There will be approximately one instructor for every five campers. Special speakers along the way include: PGA professionals, SCPGA Representatives, executives from TaylorMade and Adidas Golf, and top college golf coaches.
While this two-week ultimate golf camp is packed with golf outings, the ultimate camp experience also includes all the sights and sounds of the west coast including, two days at the Southern California beaches, a tour of Hollywood and the Sunset Strip, bowling nights and of course a full day at Disneyland.
The Southern California PGA and Total Golf Adventures have joined forces to run these camps. "Our junior golf programs are a vital part of our organization and we look at every opportunity to encourage juniors to enter and stay in our sport. Joining forces with Total Golf Adventures, which is one of the leading junior golf entities building golf through at-school, after-school programs and camps is an important relationship for SCPGA," said Nikki Gatch, SCPGA Foundation and Junior Golf Director.
"We are excited about the relationship with SCPGA," said Joshua Jacobs, founder and CEO of TGA. "We have been teaching golf to youngster nearly four years with our at-school, after-school programs and camps throughout the country. In our home base of Los Angeles, we have been involved with summer camp programs for several years. Joining with SCPGA is not only a natural extension for us, but gratifying to know that our work is being recognized by a leading golf organization."
Total Golf Adventures is no stranger to overnight and day camps. Last year, TGA ran 89 summer camps throughout the country.
