Qatar’s National Carrier Signs Up As Official Airline, World’s Leading Golfers Travel On Award-Winning Carrier To Doha
Doha, (QATAR): In a move that aligns two of the Gulf state’s strongest corporate brands, Qatar Airways has been appointed the official airline for the US$2.2 million Commercialbank Qatar Masters.
The agreement means Qatar Airways will play a key supporting role to the event’s title sponsor, the Commercialbank of Qatar, when the PGA European Tour/Asian Tour co-sanctioned tournament is staged at Doha Golf Club from January 25-28.
"The Commercialbank Qatar Masters is a perfect vehicle for the major commercial concerns in the state to come together and broadcast Qatar’s message to an international audience," said Commercialbank of Qatar Group CEO Andrew Stevens.
"Like the Commercialbank of Qatar, our partners at Qatar Airways are focused on showcasing the country as both a regional and international centre for business and tourism. It’s a great boost for the tournament to have one of the world’s fastest growing airlines in our family of sponsors and we are delighted to have them on board."
As well as transporting the world’s leading golfers to and from Doha, Qatar Airways will use its position as official airline for international promotion and on-the-ground hospitality at the tournament
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker expressed his delight at sponsoring the Commercialbank Qatar Masters.
"Qatar Airways looks forward to welcoming the world’s top golfers to Doha for one of the first leading golf tournaments of 2007," he said. "The players will be flying Qatar Airways and we hope they enjoy our world-renowned Five Star service and hospitality, both in the air and on the ground.
"Qatar Airways will have a strong presence at the Qatar Masters with extensive branding and hospitality for the players and visitors alike. I wish the players all the very best for what promises to be an exciting tournament.
"Following the success of the 15th Asian Games – for which Qatar Airways was a key sponsor – we look forward to welcoming to Qatar more sporting talent from the world of golf and to firmly position the country as a leading sports destination."
The 2007 Commercialbank Qatar Masters will see a stellar field including Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia, Chris DiMarco and Stuart Appleby battle for the winner’s cheque of US$366,660 and the famous Qatar trophy.
