Elk Rapids, MI (January 11, 2007) – The new Sundance golf course at A-Ga-Ming Resort, has been selected by Golf Digest, as one of the "Best New Courses" in America. The new course was ranked No. 3 in the "Best New Public Under $75" courses. The article appears in the January 2007 issue.
The winners for 2006 were determined by evaluations from Golf Digest’s nationwide panel of more than 800 golfers who judged new and newly remodeled courses on Shot Values, Design Variety, Resistance to Scoring, Memorability and Aesthetics.
Sundance joins The Mines Golf Club in Grand Rapids as the only Michigan courses to be honored this year. Sundance and The Mines joins other great Michigan courses that have received the Golf Digest honor in recent years, including Black Lake Golf Club (2000), Tullymore Golf Club (2002), Forest Dunes Golf Club (2003) as well as Thousand Oaks (2000) and The Grande Golf Club (2002) in the affordable category.
"It’s an honor to have Sundance recognized by Golf Digest and to be associated with the great courses they have recognized in Michigan over the past few years", said Mike Brown, Owner of A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort.
"Sundance has been a great complement to our original "Torch" course. Developing our second golf course has allowed us to become a year round resort destination with our condominium lodging, and has set the stage for our new 6,000 square foot clubhouse and new log cabin development coming in 2007."
The Sundance course was designed by Michigan architect Jerry Matthews who has also developed such popular layouts as Bucks Run, Elk Ridge and Timber Ridge. The course features a combination of fescue covered mounds, wide fairways, large greens and strategically placed bunkers and northern Michigan hardwoods.
"We are very proud of the award winning design that architect Jerry Matthews has created for us", continued Brown. "Matthews and shaper Steve St. James did a fantastic job in creating a fun, playable, and affordable golf course for all levels of players."
Located on a bluff, Sundance will offer magnificent vistas of Torch Lake to the east and Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay to the west. From the clubhouse, golfers will have a panoramic view of 15 holes of the course. Adjacent to the clubhouse, the resort will offer guests a full service practice facility.
The original A-Ga-Ming layout is a par-72 overlooking Torch Lake. The course spreads gracefully over 500 acres. It meanders over hills, through stately pines and mature hardwoods and across swift-flowing creeks. It’s the essence of golfing in Northern Michigan.
Located in the heart of America’s Summer Golf Capital, A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort is located just minutes from Traverse City overlooking Torch Lake, considered to be one of the three most beautiful inland lakes in the world.
