NGCOA Property Tax Workshop To Provide Answers For Golf Course Owners, Operators

January 16, 2007

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Jan. 15, 2007) – When it comes to property taxes, golf course owners and operators say they just want to be treated fairly, and not singled out as the targets of inflated valuations. But how do they know whether their assessment is fair or excessive? And how do they know when they’re justified in contesting their tax bill? Those are among the questions that will be discussed at the National Golf Course Owners Association’s property tax workshop on Feb. 24 in Anaheim, Calif.

Tax assessors, golf course appraisers and real estate tax attorneys will be among the workshop leaders helping owners better understand tax assessments, tax bills and land valuation, as well as their options for dealing with grievances. Toy Glennon, commercial appraisal supervisor for the Charleston (S.C.) County assessor’s office; Larry Hirsh and J. Kenneth Hopper, appraisers who specialize in golf course valuations; and Maureen McGinnity, an attorney who focuses on federal, state and local tax litigation, will lead the workshop discussion.

The workshop follows the NGCOA’s Annual Conference and the Golf Industry Show at the Anaheim Convention Center. For conference and registration information, go to www.ngcoa.org.

Owners are encouraged to bring their assessments, tax bills and property tax

grievances to the session for individual consultation with the workshop leaders.

The property tax workshop is among some 25 educational sessions focused on finding solutions for owners and operators scheduled during the NGCOA’s Annual Conference Feb. 20-24. The event runs concurrently with the third annual Golf Industry Show, Feb. 22-24, which brings together owners, operators and professional members of the golf course and club management industries.
