ORLANDO (January 17, 2007) – Rosen Shingle Creek, one of Central Florida’s premier golf and hotel destination facilities, has successfully celebrated its third anniversary, and things only continue to get better as it Looks For More In Year Four.
The anniversary was marked by the opening in September of Shingle Creek’s magnificent 1,500 room luxury hotel and the return that same month of the Second Annual Shaquille O’Neal-led "Shaq’s Mama Said Knock You Out" Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament, which was held that month in conjunction with the opening of the hotel. In November, Rosen Shingle Creek hosted the Third Annual BCC/FAMU O.C.A.C. Golf Classic, a major fundraiser designed to help the Orange County Alumni Chapters Scholarship Funds of both Bethune-Cookman College and Florida A&M University, as well as various community awareness initiatives in the Orlando area.
"We are extremely pleased with the continued growth and respect that Rosen Shingle Creek has achieved, particularly in only three years," says Harris Rosen, President and COO of Rosen Hotels & Resorts. "When we first conceptualized developing Shingle Creek, our intent was to build and grow a golf course and property that would be first class from head to toe and that would stand out among all the other facilities that Orlando has to offer. There is no question in our minds that we have achieved that. If we hadn’t, people like Shaquille O’Neal would have chosen to hold their charity events elsewhere."
Hosting O’Neal’s "Shaq’s Mama Said Knock You Out" Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament was one of the highlights of the year at Rosen Shingle Creek. The event drew such sports celebrities as Shaquille O’Neal, NBA Legends, Charles Barkley and Julius "Dr. J" Erving, Tampa Bay Bucs NFL Hall of Famer LeRoy Selmon, and Alonzo Mourning, Shaq’s teammate on the 2006 NBA Champion Miami Heat.
More importantly, the event was again a raging success for charity, raising funds for the Odessa Chambliss "Quality of Life Fund" to provide nursing scholarships. The Fund is named in honor of Lucille O’Neal’s mother and Shaquille O’Neal’s grandmother, Odessa Chambliss, who worked for over 16 years in the nursing profession and who passed away in 1996.
Charity was also the big winner at the BCC/FAMU O.C.A.C. Golf Classic, where Shingle Creek hosted the event for the second consecutive year.
"Being chosen to have events like those associated with Shaquille O’Neal and the Orange County Alumni Chapters Scholarship Funds of Bethune-Cookman College and Florida A&M University speaks volumes about the respect people have for our golf course and the amenities it provides," says Dave Scott, Director of Golf at Shingle Creek Golf Club. "It takes a golf course several years to mature. After three years, Shingle Creek is definitely in top form. It’s a course everyone will enjoy playing."
If Shingle Creek is a golf course everyone will enjoy playing, then the new hotel at Rosen Shingle Creek is a facility where everyone will enjoy staying. The 1,500 guest rooms include 139 suites. Each spacious room, which is nearly 450 sq. ft.— among the most spacious in Central Florida — is equipped with Internet connectivity and a 32-inch flat screen TV. The hotel also offers 445,000 square feet of dedicated, state-of-the-art meeting/event space, including a 95,000-square-foot column-free ballroom. The resort, which comprises 230 acres, also has a full array of amenities including a full-service 13,000-square-foot Spa at Shingle Creek with nine treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art Fitness Center, nine restaurants and lounges, four outdoor pools, two lighted tennis courts, seasonal canoeing, hiking, volleyball and more.
Shingle Creek Golf Club was named this year for the second year in a row one of the top 100 golf shops in the U.S. by Golf Shop magazine. In June 2005, Shingle Creek was named a "Top 40 Best New Course" by Golfweek magazine, followed a month later by being named one of the "Top 10 Toughest Courses" by the Orlando Business Journal. Shingle Creek has received the prestigious "Greens of Distinction" from Corporate & Incentive Travel magazine.
Shingle Creek Golf Club is located at 9939 Universal Blvd., just off exit 2 of the Bee Line Expressway (S.R. 528). The David Harman designed course features undulating fairways and interconnecting waterways bordered by the natural backdrop of dense oaks and pines along historic Shingle Creek.
Shingle Creek Golf Club features a state-of-the-art practice facility, the Brad Brewer Golf Academy, a world-class clubhouse, golf carts with UpLink GPS yardage system, complimentary valet parking, full-service golf shop, and club and shoe rentals.
