Wales, the next European destination for the Ryder Cup, will be flying its flag at the PGA Merchandise Show 2007 in Florida, the world’s biggest trade show for the golfing industry.
International Business Wales, the international trade and investment arm of the Welsh Assembly Government, has teamed up with Visit Wales and Ryder Cup Wales to ensure that the Ryder Cup 2010 host has a strong presence at the show, demonstrating to the World golfing community what Wales has to offer in the run up to 2010 and beyond.
Through its Export Assist Programme, International Business Wales has also enabled a delegation of Welsh firms to exhibit at the show.
These include Asbri Golf Ltd, which is an example of the positive impact and prestige that Ryder Cup 2010 is already having on Wales’s golf and wider business communities.
Asbri Golf will be returning to the PGA Merchandise Show for the third time. Eryl Williams, managing director and former Puma designer, said: "The 2006 show was a huge success for us last year and we signed a number of distribution deals including appointing a UK distributor, which has accounted for 10 per cent of our UK sales this year. Also, as a result of last year’s show, we now have our products in many European markets and unusual golfing destinations such as Africa and Egypt. We cannot thank Ryder Cup Wales, International Business Wales and Visit Wales enough for their support – it has been invaluable."
Asbri Golf will be unveiling its 2007 product range at the show. The range is designed to meet the demands of the patriotic golfer and the lady golfer. Its new ‘Cresta Collection’ allows unique customisation of the products for corporate golf merchandise.
Stefan Cegielski of Primus Products said: "Following the success of The Driveaway golf kit cleanser, we are using the show to launch a number of new products to the international market. Our new product range includes a Driveaway electric golf cart and a golf towel with a pocket for carrying a bottle of Driveaway. We are now also able offer The Driveaway golf kit cleanser in six languages and The Royal and Ancient have confirmed that it "conforms to ‘rules of golf’".
"Since the success of our involvement in the 2006 show, we have been incredibly busy and are now set to begin the next phase of growth – helping golfers across the world clean up their game. We currently have sample sachets of the Driveaway golf kit cleanser at a third of all UK courses and are focused our growing our international profile.
"As well as promoting our new product range to the international market, we hope the show will enable us to secure working partnerships in the US and Asia and consolidate our work in Europe. We currently export to Ireland and are finalising a distribution deal in Sweden."
John Jermine, chairman of Ryder Cup Wales said: "By global standards Wales may be a small country, but it has an impressive golfing pedigree with fine courses across the country including a number of championship links courses. This show, the world’s biggest show for the golf industry, offers a fantastic platform for Wales to promote itself as an excellent location for sport, tourism and business. Our presence at the event allows us to raise Wales’s international profile in a key market, support and showcase Welsh companies and engage with key contacts on the road to 2010."
