Nationwide Association Recognizes 13 Troon ‘Women-Friendly’ Courses
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, January 18, 2007 Troon Golf is the first golf management company to become a supporting partner of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA). The association also has recognized 13 Troon managed properties as ‘women-friendly’ golf facilities. This special designation was awarded by Pam Swensen, the chief executive officer of the EWGA at the Troon annual managers meeting held earlier this month in Scottsdale, Arizona.
"We are pleased to launch our recognition of ‘women friendly’ facilities with Troon Golf," says Swensen. "They have participated in our EWGA Golf Club Network since the start of the program and we now welcome their additional commitment as the first golf management company to become a supporting partner of the EWGA."
Golf courses, resorts, driving ranges, golf academies and other instructional facilities can join the EWGA Golf Club Network, previously called the Host Club Partner program, which is designed to increase rounds and revenue while encouraging more women to play golf. Facilities pay a nominal annual fee and offer reduced fees for play, practice or instruction as a benefit of EWGA membership. In return, the facilities are listed in the EWGA print and online directories, valued resources used by the association’s nearly 20,000 members when seeking places to play. Special consideration as host sites for EWGA events and tournaments and other marketing opportunities also are included.
As part of its supporting partnership, Troon is offering all EWGA members Silver Status in the Troon Rewards Program and Gold Status for EWGA executive members.
"At the golf course, women don’t want to feel they are being treated differently, they just want to be taken seriously," says Swensen. "We want to recognize Troon Golf for understanding the value of providing ‘female friendly’ facilities."
A 2006 survey of EWGA members conducted by the PGA of America found that 62% are avid golfers, playing more than 25 rounds per year. EWGA members spent an average of $3,278 on golf activities and merchandise and another $2294 on golf related travel.
"Being the first facilities to earn the EWGA’s ‘women friendly’ designation and becoming a supporting partner demonstrate our commitment to promoting women’s golf," says Tim Greenwell, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing for Troon Golf. "We recognize the power of the purse and that a satisfied woman customer means more business."
