The Cup Face 360T Technology, 450 Maraging Steel, And The Dual Tungsten Weighting System Creates Superior Forgiveness, Distance, And Ball Control
Albany, GA. January 22, 2007- What do you get when you combine the forgiveness of Cup Face 360A technology with the power of a Quadra Action shaft and a tungsten weighting system? The answer is the new MACTEC NVG2
Draw 3-Wood from MacGregor Golf. The innovative Cup Face 360w technology from MacGregor provides unmatched forgiveness and distance from the fairway while the Draw calibrated weighting system eliminates misses to the right, allowing golfers of all skill levels to carry hazards and aim for pins!
Employing a one-piece cup face made with 450 maraging steel, MacGregor’s highly-innovative Cup Face 360° technology completely eliminates welds on the clubface and delivers a 30-percent bigger sweet spot than 3-woods with standard face insert technology. The combination of high-rebound maraging steel and Cup Face 360° results in incredibly hot ball response across the entire club face, delivering tremendous distance and accuracy from virtually every point of contact and making every shot feel like it was hit dead center. Now, with dual tungsten inserts strategically placed to assist with a right-to-left ball-flight, players can hit the ball longer and straighter without any adjustments to their swing mechanics.
"With the success of the MACTEC NVG2 Cup Face 360" Driver line, we couldn’t wait to allow golfers to use the same technology with their 3-woods" said Barry Schneider, Chairman and CEO of MacGregor Golf.  "The Cup Face 360" technology provides forgiveness, the variable face thickness provides distance, and the dual weighting system assists with left-to-right spin. These features will undoubtedly help golfers of all skill levels."
In addition to Cup Face 360° and Fujikura Quadra Action, the MACTEC
NVG2 Draw 3-wood employs a host of cutting edge technologies and features designed to deliver superior performance for golfers of all skill levels, including:.
â?¢ Draw Influencing Dual Tungsten precision sole weighting for high-MOI stability and accuracy as well as a Large Rotation Angle that produces a draw ball-flight.
â?¢ 450 Maraging steel with VFT (Variable Face Thickness) maximizes the rebound effect to deliver maximum ball speed across the entire clubface. The maraging steel face, in combination with the 17-4 stainless body, moves the CG location closer to the face resulting in a better ball-flight and maximum distance.
MACTEC NVG2 Draw 3-Wood Technology
Cup Face 360°
At the heart of the MACTEC NVG2 Draw 3-Wood is MacGregor’s proprietary Cup Face 360° technology. Unlike other 3-woods using conventional ‘face insert’
technology, MACTEC NVG2 Draw 3-woods with Cup Face 360° use a face made entirely of high-performance 450 Maraging steel. The face is then 3D plasma welded a full 360 degrees around the leading edge of the club head, completely eliminating welds on the face of the club.
450 Maraging Steel
While the Cup Face 360W technology turns the entire cup face into the sweet spot, the 450 Maraging steel with VFT (Variable Face Thickness) maximizes the rebound effect to the USGA limit to deliver maximum ball speed across the entire clubface. The maraging face, in combination with the 17-4 stainless body, allows MacGregor to move the CG location closer to the face.
This ultimately produces a strong, mid-height trajectory, which improves ball flight control, with just the right amount of spin for maximum distance.
Fujikura Shaft Technology
The proprietary technology inside MacGregor’s Fujikura Triple Action Shaft will do wonders for golfers with various swing speeds, which will, in turn, do wonders for their distance. Shrewdly engineered with two bend points and three distinct stiffness zones, the Triple Action Shaft generates, stabilizes, and releases increased energy at impact to generate unprecedented clubhead speed. This shaft is engineered to optimize distance especially for golfers swinging less than 100 mph. By using this technology, MacGregor has gone the extra distance so that the everyday golfer can go the extra distance.
Dual Tungsten Weighting
A key to the amazing stability and accuracy of the new MACTEC NVG2 Draw 3-Wood is the ultra-high Moment of Inertia (MOI) or resistance to twisting of the club head. The 3-Wood is equipped with two precision-placed, high-density Tungsten weights, placed slightly forward of center causing moderate spin for a high launch angle and a soft landing. In addition, 15 grams of Tungsten weight is positioned at the heel of the club and 5 grams at the toe bringing the CG location slightly toward the heel, enhancing stability at impact and easily produce a draw bias. The Tungsten weighting complements the power of the NVG2 Draw Fairway Wood with an abundance of control, which is vital if one prefers playing their third shot on a par five from the green, as opposed to, the front bunker. (NOT SURE ABOUT THIS LAST SENTENCE)
Light Crown Structures
The one-piece body structure of the NVG2 Draw Fairway Wood was engineered with an incredibly thin crown (.6mm), which is 40% less mass than a standard crown (typically 1mm), allowing MacGregor to redistribute weight from the crown to the sole via Tungsten weighting. These precisely positioned weights produce easy high launch angles, even from a relatively deep face, which translate into nearly effortless long distance shots.
