Now Played by Retief Goosen, Darren Clarke, Natalie Gulbis, Fred Funk and Sean O’Hair
CARLSBAD, Calif. (January 23, 2007) -TaylorMade Golf Company, Inc. has announced that five high-profile tour professionals — Retief Goosen, Darren Clarke, Natalie Gulbis, Fred Funk and Sean O’Hair –have switched golf ball brands, and now trust their games to the TaylorMade TP golf ball. They join a host of other TaylorMade TP golf ball players including Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Paul McGinley, J.L. Lewis, Ian Leggatt, Jason Day, Gary McCord and Hale Irwin, who won the Champions Tour’s MasterCard Championship at Hualalai last week while playing the TP Red ball.
"When we started testing TaylorMade TP golf balls with Goosen, Clarke, Gulbis, Funk and O’Hair, we knew they were also testing several new products by our competitors," said Dean Snell, senior director of golf ball research and development. "We spent a lot of time on the course, on the range and using a launch monitor. Not only did we go five for five when all of them chose TaylorMade, but every player called to tell us about how the TP outperformed the competition."
Retief Goosen said: "I’m extremely impressed by the tee to green performance of both balls. The TP Redâ?¢ is six to seven yards longer off my driver and very controllable with my irons. I found that the TP Red and TP Blackâ?¢ spin slightly differently. I’ll use the TP Black when I need more spin on firmer greens and the TP Red for softer greens."
Sean O’Hair said: "Wow, both balls are great. I’ve increased my ball speed by two miles per hour and driver distance by five yards with both. They’re the most consistent ball I’ve ever played as far as distance control, and both perform great in the wind, and great around the green."
Natalie Gulbis said: "The performance of the TP Black is off the charts. It’s longer off the tee and spins better with the wedges. It’s the best golf ball I’ve ever played."
Fred Funk said: "The TP Red is as long as any ball I’ve had success with, yet feels nice and soft around the greens. It gives me a lot of confidence to know that the new ball I’m now playing is made by the same great company as the TaylorMade metalwoods and irons that I’ve trusted for years."
Darren Clarke said: "I compared the performance of the TP Red against a new competitor’s model, and the TP Red tested extremely well. It was much more consistent, especially into the wind, and I gained more distance off the tee and more control with my irons. Can’t wait to see what you guys can do nextâ?¦"
The TaylorMade TP Red and TP Black each feature a multi-layer ionomer mantle positioned between a thermoset urethane cover and super-fast NdV4 core to promote ultra-fast ball speed and tour-level spin control. Plus, the PDP dimple design helps extend the back-half of your flight for increased carry. TP Red promotes a slightly lower launch angle for control and softer feel; TP Black promotes a higher launch angle for increased carry and a slightly firmer feel. (Read an in-depth description.)
"That these five prominent players have chosen to play TaylorMade TP golf balls further validates the world-class performance of our TP Black and the TP Red," said Mark King, TaylorMade president and CEO, "and makes it clear that TaylorMade can not only compete in the premium golf ball market, we have what it takes to capture a significant part of it."
