West End, NC – The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) has announced the opening of the successful Carolinas Interclub program for 2007. The Carolinas Interclub has grown during the past 11 years to include 85 clubs throughout North and South Carolina. The event features match play team competition between neighboring clubs for scratch and net golfers in individual and four-ball net competition.
CGA member clubs are eligible to enter. Four clubs are paired in a group to play home-and-home matches during the regular season. The regular season begins in April and concludes with the playoffs in October. The matches are normally scheduled on Saturdays and/or Sundays and do not interfere with regular club events. These weekend events provide clubs the opportunity to play in a Ryder Cup style team competition. Twelve players from each club compete in each match.
Points are awarded to the winners of the two individual and the one four-ball match in each foursome and accumulated to determine the team winner of the home-and-home series.
Teams with the most wins after completing their local matches advance, through the sectional and regional playoffs until a Carolinas Interclub Champion is determined.
Last year Montgomery Country Club of Troy, NC won the title by edging River Hills Country Club of Lake Wylie, SC at Tanglewood Park’s Championship course in Clemmons, NC.
Registration deadline for year-round clubs is March 2. Deadline for mountain clubs closed for the winter is April 25.
