ORLANDO (January 26, 2007) – Shingle Creek Golf Club has always thought that Brad Brewer is one of the best golf instructors in the country.
Now, Golf Magazine has confirmed it.
Brewer, who heads Shingle Creek’s renowned Brad Brewer Golf Academy, has been named one of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers for 2007-2008.
The announcement was made Thursday night at Golf Magazine’s Top 100 dinner and World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame ceremony at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando.
"I am extremely honored to receive this unbelievable accolade. It’s one of the highlights of my career," says Brewer. "It’s quite a humbling yet gratifying honor to be recognized with this group of top instructors. How fortunate am I to love what I do every day and to be able to help others find more enjoyment playing better golf and gain an appreciation for the spirit of the game."
Brewer is one of 15 new teachers to be named to Golf Magazine’s elite list, out of approximately 600 initial nominees. His selection is part of a thorough process the magazine goes through in picking what its editors feel are the best of the best.
The nominating process starts when candidates are solicited by Golf Magazine from the executive directors of all 41 PGA of America sections, the Canadian PGA, the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division, current members of the Top 100 and GOLF Magazine readers. Nominees must be actively teaching on a regular schedule.

A wide-ranging questionnaire developed by the University of Georgia’s Sports Instruction Lab — the nation’s only lab designed to study how sports are taught — is sent to all nominees. The questionnaire deals with such areas as teaching philosophy, teaching style, communication skills, experience, student success stories, continuing education and development, and teaching awards.
Finally, a committee comprised of Golf Magazine’s editor and instruction editors, and a select group of current Top 100 Teachers, examines the completed questionnaires. The committee then makes its final decisions based upon an important combination of 10 criteria. They are, in order of importance, Demonstrated swing knowledge; Demonstrated communication skills; Innovative teaching ideas; Understanding of — and flexibility in teaching — different learning types; Proven success in improving students’ games; Willingness to share knowledge with peers through workshops, seminars, etc.; Teaching longevity; Success instructing well-known golfers; Number of nominations and recommendations; Industry awards from the PGA or LPGA or other peer recognition, such as speaking at regional and national teaching summits.
"Brad definitely meets those qualifications," says Dave Scott, Director of Golf at Shingle Creek Golf Club. "He is innovative, knowledgeable, understanding and so much more. He is one of the best, as Golf Magazine clearly attests to. He’s one of the prime reasons Shingle Creek is such an outstanding golfing and resort facility."
Brewer’s dedication to golf, and his love of the game, comes from his lifelong relationship with Arnold Palmer. As part of that relationship, Brewer co-founded the Arnold Palmer Golf Academies with the man known as "The King."
Brewer is respected in many quarters throughout the golf industry. Among his many highlights is being a featured instructor on The Golf Channel and the author of My Golf Journal, Golf for Everybody, and the soon to be released, Mentored by the King. Brewer was previously named the North Florida PGA Teacher of the Year. As a player, he has competed successfully on the Australasian PGA Tour and Hogan/Nike Tours.
