New Look Website For The Growing GolfMark Award

February 2, 2007

The English Golf Union (EGU) and English Ladies’ Golf Association (ELGA) have revamped their GolfMark website.

GolfMark is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities and since the scheme’s re-launch in 2006, to incorporate Sport England’s Clubmark award, the EGU and ELGA have been delighted with the number of golf clubs who are working towards the prestigious accreditation.

The new GolfMark website is more user friendly for both clubs and golfers alike and additional features and information have been added including case studies of those clubs who have achieved GolfMark, the benefits and offers that are available to accredited clubs and those clubs working towards the award, plus other links to EGU/ELGA initiatives.

Fifteen clubs have already been awarded GolfMark and another 300 are working through the accreditation process. In addition 187 golf clubs have already achieved the original Junior GolfMark Award, which demonstrates and recognises their hard work and commitment to junior golf. When those clubs reach the end of their three-year accreditation period they will renew their commitment through the enhanced GolfMark Award.

Richard Flint, EGU/ELGA Golf Development Manager comments: "The number of clubs working towards the GolfMark shows a real commitment to support juniors and beginners throughout England. Sustainable quality measures and best practice can only benefit the health of the game and the recognition of those clubs through the GolfMark Award is very important".

To further assist clubs in reaching the GolfMark standard the EGU and ELGA are running six Regional Conferences throughout England that will provide a day of workshops for club staff or representatives to attend. Further information along with dates and venues of the conferences can be found on the EGU website, www.englishgolfunion.org

The GolfMark award is an initiative jointly provided by the EGU and ELGA via England Golf’s ‘Whole Sport Plan’ for golf and is an integral part of England Golf’s vision to ‘Grow the Game’.
