Final Round 63 Earns 2nd Place at FBR
ATLANTA — February 5, 2007 Srixon Staff Professional John Rollins now leads the PGA Tour’s inaugural FedExCup Points list on the heels of his solo second place finish at the FBR Open in Scottsdale, AZ on Sunday. And he did it in dramatic fashion. Rollins scorched the TPC Scottsdale on Sunday with a final round 63, the day’s best, and equal to the lowest score of the entire tournament. He played with Srixon’s Z-UR Golf Ball, Srixon I-302 Irons, and Srixon Forged Wedges to shoot a 20-under par, 264 total (65-68-68-63). Only a bad break on a great shot on the 18th hole prevented him from gaining a playoff berth. Standing one shot outside the lead in the middle of the 18th fairway after an ideal tee shot, Rollins’ perfect wedge from 135 yards rattled the flag itself and rather than stop a few feet away, bounced 25 feet back to the front of the green.
Still, Rollins, the 2006 B.C. Open Champion, is off to a great start this year. This was his second, 2nd place finish after coming up just short in a playoff at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and he now leads the FedExCup Points list. The FedExCup Race is the Tour’s new playoff style format that rewards season long play culminating in a 4 event series that determines the final points leader. Along with winning the FedExCup trophy, the leader earns a $10 million first prize.
