Gaylord to manage new era for David Toms Golf
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (Feb 1, 2007) – David Toms, a twelve-time PGA Tour winner, has signed with Gaylord Sports to expand his golf course design endeavors. Toms plans to expand his focus to include residential development and hospitality services. Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President David Yates and Vice President of Development Tim Ummel will work closely with Toms and his future development partners.
"I feel the time is right in my career to expand my efforts in the golf course design business" said Toms, the 2001 PGA Championship winner, "and I’m really eager to take advantage of Gaylord’s expertise in this area. David and Tim’s philosophy for doing business is very much aligned with my own."
Toms has worked with Rees Jones on the Redstone Golf Club, site of the Shell Houston Open, and they’re currently working on a redesign of Baton Rouge (LA) Country Club. David Toms Golf designed Carter Plantation, his first signature course which was named one of the top 10 Courses You Can Play by Golf Magazine in 2003.
"This is a great honor for Gaylord Sports to be working with someone as talented as David Toms," said Yates. "We’ll be looking to develop David’s design business both domestically and internationally and combining his special interests – golf, hunting and fishing – into unique new communities. We will also be working with each developer and community that we do projects in to introduce the David Toms Foundation for underprivileged children."
