PLANO, TEXAS, February 19, 2007 – Adams Golf Tour Staff Pro Scott Sterling overcame a crowded leaderboard at the Jacob’s Creek Open Championship to claim his first victory on the Nationwide Tour. With 18 players within four strokes of the lead on Sunday, Sterling’s calm approach and focused game plan helped him finish at 12-under par, one stroke ahead of the next competitor.
"It’s just unbelievable," said Sterling after collecting $108,000 for the win. "With the first one you always have some doubts because you haven’t done it before. Overall I was pretty calm but standing over that last one, I was the most nervous I’d been all day."
Sterling spent much of 2006 playing on the Tight Lies Tour, sponsored by Adams Golf, where he ranked #1 on the money list. He made his first career start on the PGA TOUR in June of last year at the FedEx St. Jude Classic where he finished T38. He was a member of the Nationwide Tour in 2002-05. With this victory, Sterling moves to the top of the 2007 Nationwide Tour Money List.
"We’re really happy for Scott and we congratulate him on his first career Nationwide Tour win," said Chip Brewer, Adams Golf CEO. "His low-key style and years of experience proved to be the recipe for success. It was a packed leaderboard and he was competing against, not only the Nationwide Tour’s best, but also some of the finest talent on the Australiasian Tour."
Along with Sterling, other Adams Golf Tour Staff Pros were in the hunt, including Brad Ott,
